Price sticker was old and lower than this year’s batch, I think. Lower carbonation also indicated an older brew, and the taste seemed a bit mellowed out in a good way. Bright orange pour with a red tint. Nice and cloudy throughout. Hops were definitely present throughout but not dominating. Also wasn’t overly sweet in a way that sometimes turns me off (I’m looking at you, Reverend). In fact, it had a nice slight sourness to it. Some apple/pear fruit, dates, spice, wood, malt, hops. A little good must. I’ll definitely drink more. LtDan (538), Los Angeles County, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 3, 2009 Appearance: Pours a dark auburn with a pin stripe of white froth.
Aroma: Perfume, mint chocolate, clove, some bread notes, as well as dark fruit notes.
Taste: Booze, bready malt, cherry, wood, dark rum. There is a stream of bitter hops in the background of all mentioned.
Mouthfeel: Puckering and warm like a bold red wine.
Overall: An amazing, complex beer, that should age terrifically. taalhiker (179), Dayton, Ohio, USA

Pours caramel in color. Aromas include citrus, honey and spice. Hides the alcohol extremely well. Full mouthfeel with hops, dark fruit and candied fruit. Nicely done.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 31, 2009 great idea on allagash to produce a beer like this. beer opened up nicley in a pint glass that i drank it out of. strong aroma of all the ingredients they put into this brew. alcohol was definatley on the nose along with a sweetness sugarly smell and the bitterness of the hops jumped out. easy on the palate with a whole range a flavors coming out. serve really cold but not to cold that could cause it to lose some of its mystic. boto (1352), Granby, Connecticut, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 30, 2007 750ml bottle: This one pours a hazy, coppery co;or. There was a small off-white head that doesn’t last too long. The aroma is quite nice: a myriad of different scents. Bready, caramel, coriander, pears, apples, and possibly a few others. The taste is quite good, although it a tad lighter in body than I would have expected. Light carbonation on the tongue. Tastes of caramel (but not very sweet at all), spices, fruits. It is complex to say the least. Very nicely done. Indra (2041), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2004 Engaging aroma, full of sweet malt and doughy, estery yeast with notes of turbinado sugar, banana, pineapple, tangerine, plum, clove, coriander, anise and faint, peppery alcohol. Highly attractive deep, cloudy garnet color, topped with a lasting, voluminous, frothy off-white head and abundant lacing. Flavor profile is similarly intriguing, beginning with a burst of lightly tart tropical fruitiness, turning spicy and toasty with a long, sweet, toffeeish and mildly grainy finish that eventually gives way to hints of milk chocolate. Downy soft, effervescent palate with a deceptively full body. Balance and complexity are both impressive in their depth. I found it reminiscent of Unibroue’s La Terrible, which I also very much enjoyed. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA

Right after the Achel Extra, and a nice comparison was made. Clear bronze, no head. Sweet, syrupy peaches in the nose, rather "fresh" tasting for this style I think. Ultra-creamy palate, interesting herbal notes throughout: orangepeel hear, white pepper there, ah a bit of ginger and some more pungent rosemary and tarragon near the final drops. Wonderful, for me just a tiny bit less impressive than the closer-to-style Achel. DYCSoccer17 (2201), Davis, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2004 Updated: Jul 28, 2007Holy popped cork. Pour is a surprisingly transparent amber.copper color with a frothy off-white head with a twinge of yellow. Yeast, cloves and peppers in the nose. Slight pineness to the aroma as well. Bitter earthy finish. STart is sweet carbonated moving to some maltiness. A different brew. COlor is too clear. A bit too overcarbonated and the bitterness at the end is a little much(8/3/7/4/15 3.7).------- 7/28/07-------& a shitty initial rating. Sweet, malty start which has some spiciness and brown sugary flavors in the middle. Very smooth and creamy. Some nice estery flavors are also there. Leathery flavors with some cigar notes are also present to finish. This is 10%? Damn, it’s smooth. Current rating reflects most recent sample.
