4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 boboski (1095) - Alabama, USA - DEC 26, 2006
So elegant, my favorite of Allagash’s amazing products. Pours a gorgeous deep amber with a stubborn off white head. Sweet and tart yeast in the aroma, along with slightly spicy hops, very light phenolic alcohol, oranges, sugar, caramel and chocolate. Flavor is very full and divine, very well rounded and balanced. Sugar cookies, cinnamon, new oak dominate the taste profile. Finish is streamlined, elegant with a touch of mustiness. Yummy.

Pours a slight hazy amber color. Medium white head. The smell is very sweet. I notice a bit of a fruit smell, berry like. I am picking up on a bit of chocolate banana as well. Smells a bit malty and creamy. Taste has a very nice balance to it. Very nice and just the right amount of sweetness from the malt to go with the hoppiness. You can taste a slight burn from the alcohol on this beer as well. I detect an over so sligh chocolate banana taste. This was a very good beer and my 100th rating.

A beer i thoroughly enjoy every time i crack one. Very malty and sweet, but much better balanced than other American quads i have tasted. It hides the alcohol well, though the thick pour, rich flavors, and dark color do hint at what’s in store. It has good favors found in Belgian classics, with some citrus and spice backing the malts. One of those beers that makes you wonder why you should go to a bar and buy $4 imports when you can spend $4 per person for a delicious glass of this.

750ml bottle from north belt west liqour. color is cloudy brwon with amber highlights. a short foamy tan head forms after the pour. aroma is yeasty with some light dried fruit apricot strong caramel and and toffeed nuts. alcohol can be detected but seem to be well contained. intensley creamy with flavors of tea, smoke, and caramel with a long palate that is sleek and sultry. high alcohol provides good backbone for such a sweet and layered treat. hops take over the finish in a most seductive fashion sliding in on the end and providing a nice tingle throughout the finish.

draft @ uber tavern - after enjoying a few bottles of this over the last year, i was delighted to see this on tap at uber; bright orange with reddish hints and cream colored head; sweet aromas of candy, yeast, fruit and sugar; creamy texture and just divine; one of my fav beers
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Pastor (700) - Eliot, Maine, USA - SEP 6, 2010
Poured into a couple of chalices it produced a good two fingers of a off white head that turned into a great lace. The body of the brew was amber/brown in color. The aromas of dark fruits and cherries along with some Belgian yeast filled my head.
The flavor followed the nose, fruity and yeasty. I did detect a little alcohol warmth as well, but it did not detract anything from the flavor. It had a medium to full feel to its body, with good carbonation.
For a quad I will say that it was tasty enough to grab a second glass. The flavor was more than enough to accompany a fine cigar for desert. I often grab this brew when I am in the mood for a fine American Quad. I believe this one is the finest brewed on this side of the pond

UPDATED: APR 30, 2007 Update:2/07 - Recently had a bottle that had been cellared for almost two years. I was very dissapointed. I thought this beer would really get better with age. Another outstanding beer from Allagash. Rapidly becoming one of my fav brewers. I’ve been holding onto a bunch of these for months. I just couldn’t bring my self to open open (if I drink one I’ll only have 5 left). Finally broke down and drank one for Thanksgiving Eve; had to rationalize it). Anyway, aroma was great. Even though there are four malts in this, I really didn’t notice it or the hops. What I really noticed was the cherry and ruby port. Head was creamy, light-brown, excellent lacing, that mostly diminished. Color was dark amber. Heavy sweet initial flavor that lessens. Definitely can taste the malt now. Finish was very long. The body was not as full as some quads. Texture was syrupy and flat with incredibly little if any alcohol finish. One of my favorite quads. It was very smooth without too much cherry, like Three Phils. Very interested to see how this matures. Now only if Allagash would distribute to Georgia.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 SoLan (1550) - Florida, USA - JAN 21, 2006
Light brown/deep amber. Huge, dense off white head. Aroma- big yeast, malt, sugar, touch of dark fruit, subtle hops- all grow more intense as it warms. Flavor- balanced malt and hops, big yeast and sugar, pungent dark fruits, touch of alcohol, caramel roastiness creeping in as it warms. Full, rich body. Perfect carbonation. Caramel/alcohol/yeast aftertaste and finish. Excellent brew, excellent brewery. Start this one at 60’F. I hope they bottle the barrel aged version.

Nice clear golden amber color. Thick, creamy tan head that disappears fairly rapidly but leaves behind some bubbles. Rich, sweet vinous aroma with the presence of green grapes, apples, dried fruits (dates, raisins, figs), dark brown sugar, caramel. Nice rich candy-like flavors: caramel, toffee, dark brown sugar. Yeast, sweet malts were also predominant flavors, with some light hoppiness present. A very smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a fairly dry finish. Pretty well-balanced overall. While it is unquestionably good, it does seem to lack the depth and complexity of the "heavyweights" of this style.
