candy apple color, really really bitter rubbery feel to it, not really as good as i thought from the aroma.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2004 Rating #900. I suppose that this is a well made beer, but the bottom line for me is that it really doesn’t taste all that good. I am giving it a 5, with a benefit of doubt; since I believe it to be made to a style ie. "American Belgian." At least that is what I call it. Because no great Belgian beers actually taste like this. This beer is hot. It has an unpleasant astringent quality that borders on offensive to me, but on the other hand I don’t want to pour it out either. So I am sticking to the middle for flavor and aroma. It is a nice looking beer, and the mouthfeel can be called "velvety" which is good. Bottom line - if you like the style of beer that I call "American Belgian," you like that astringent heat, and you like Ommegang and Unibroue stuff - then you will love this beer. It’s not really my bag though.

Very spicy. The body tastes of belgian yeast and fang sourness. A little stale. Thanks to Milkman Dan.

Pours a cola colored amber with a thin off white head. Aroma is very malty with a little bit of dark fruit and apple. Flavor is more of the same except super sweet. Kind of cloying and syrupy with some strange bread and bad fruit hints. It was ok, but not great.

Not particularly enticing aroma of medicine and alcohol, with a little bit of pleasant raisin and yeast. Orangish/dark copper color, with a light head that faded quickly. Flavor is a mixture of cough syrup and grape and sugar, odd. Alcohol is noticeable on the palate.

Surprisingly mediocre offering from what really good brewer. Copper-tan colour. Aroma is alcohol, grapes, clove and yeast. This doesn’t come together very well and does not offer anything that stirs the senses. Dryish palate. Some maltiness and a little bit of fruitiness. By the numbers quad.

I didn’t like this beer. It didn’t taste like an Abbey Quadrupel. It tasted more like a Fullers Vintage Bitter. Not Belgian in style by a long shot. The bitter hops were way too bitter. Four times made them stand out and unbalance the whole beer.

The beer seemed a little bit overdone to me. I feel like it was a bit to malty and sweet for my tastes. I would have liked to be able to taste the hops a bit better. It was a solid beer that was full of flavor, but just not the flavor that I prefer.

IMO...whatever Allagash was shooting for they missed. Big alcohol kick but flavorless. I think I paid about $11 for a bottle of this this, definitely not worth it.
