750mL bottle. Murky orange brown with a medium light tan head. Honey, apples, and sweet malt in the aroma. Fig, raisin, appleskin, and honey. Cloying sweetness with a bit of estery spiciness in the finish. Mouthfeel is heavy, thick. I found it to be too sweet.

Oct. 2005 - Very underwhelming. Beer poured typical brownish belgian color with little head. The taste was just too darned sweet...like other fake tasting American belgian wannabes. No richness, little complexity.

Sampled at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore. Pours a clear copper color with no head and some tight bubbles. Aroma is wheaty and yeasty with some hay and whiskey. Flavor is malty with sweet candy, yeast and some brandy. Finish is thick and boozy. Could either use more complexity or some more subtlety.

6th July 2008. Smooth malty beer - no bitterness at all. Very dry aromatic finish. Not a bad Belgian style beer but otherwise unremarkable.

12 oz. Bottle. Medium cloudy brown. Pleasant aroma. Tasted and smelled of hops. Decent beer.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ocean82 (77) - Virginia, USA - JUL 8, 2012
Pours cloudy brown with a medium head and good amount of lacing. Aromas were muted with some malt caramel, alcohol, and phenols. Flavors seemed equally muted with malt caramel up front followed by yeast and spice with some fruitiness mixed in. Mouthfeel was creamy but carbonated with a dry finish. For a brew with 4 malts, 4 sugars, hopped and fermented 4 times, it was devastatingly lacking character.
--- Cheers

Sugary sweet aroma with a little banana and yeast. Color is a deep copper brown color but suprisingly clear, Large chunky, foamy head. Taste is very sweet in the front. Middle is a little bland and flat and the finich is acidic. I do not know if this will get better with age, I hope so. This is a great brewery and I think they can do better than this.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2004 Rating #900. I suppose that this is a well made beer, but the bottom line for me is that it really doesn’t taste all that good. I am giving it a 5, with a benefit of doubt; since I believe it to be made to a style ie. "American Belgian." At least that is what I call it. Because no great Belgian beers actually taste like this. This beer is hot. It has an unpleasant astringent quality that borders on offensive to me, but on the other hand I don’t want to pour it out either. So I am sticking to the middle for flavor and aroma. It is a nice looking beer, and the mouthfeel can be called "velvety" which is good. Bottom line - if you like the style of beer that I call "American Belgian," you like that astringent heat, and you like Ommegang and Unibroue stuff - then you will love this beer. It’s not really my bag though.

candy apple color, really really bitter rubbery feel to it, not really as good as i thought from the aroma.
