obguthr (984), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Oct 11, 2009 Moderately strong aroma of oranges, peaches, and raisins. Opaque orange with fine floaties, no head. The flavor is of peaches and raisins. Lasting lemon grass finish. Alcohol is not evident. rds (224), USA Sep 27, 2009 Cloudy golden body with a thick white head, nice traces of fruit and spice, great balance of malt. A super ale. aaronbr (49), Palo Alto, California, USA Sep 24, 2009 Pours a murky golden color with an almost grainy looking texture - can’t tell if it’s heavy bubbles, or are there little bits of sediment in it? Smell is heavy and sweet. The taste has an immediate sour tang that overwhelms the tongue and dissipates into a dark, nutty fruitiness. Malty and seems pretty viscous. It’s interesting, and it has a whole lotta complexity, but it’s not something I’d go for too often. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Aug 31, 2009 pours a hazy dark orange with a medium size light tan head, and good lacing.
smell is of malt, dark fruit, and some caramel.
taste is creamy, dark fruit, caramel, peanuts, malt in the back, and some hops, end is a little dry. simonbilyk (41), Maine, USA Aug 20, 2009 Tasted at brewery, batch 19 (8 months old). Clear and dark golden with a creamy head. Aroma is lightly roasted malt and a bit of tang. Feels heavy, best to drink in a small glass. I can’t get all the flavors but there are a lot of them. Yay beer! yemenmocha (344), Glendale, Arizona, USA Aug 4, 2009 Deep red amber hue with some haze from the yeast. Belgian lace present throughout the whole drinking experience, though initial head is somewhat flacid even with an aggressive pour.
Aroma suggests sweetness throughout. Malt, Wit/Hefeweizen yeasty fruity aromas, and some black tea aromas are present. Ceylon Fancy?
Medium bodied. A nice malty flavor, balanced though. Sweetness is great for those who like this style. Higher alcohol is very deceptive to me. For an alternative to pricey Belgian imports, give this one a try.
