Commercial Description:
Allagash Grand Cru is deep golden in color, and has a firm yet refined malty palate. Taste and aroma have suggestions of smoke and licorice, with subtle hints of fruit and spice. An excellent beer to enjoy during the cooler seasons.

Cherry skins, green raisons, sweet malts on the nose with hints of spice. Pours very cloudy orange with a thin white head. Very malty, sweet, raw sugar, hints of fruit, green raisons, green figs, with a spicy finish. This bottle is a little old, i can taste some age, but it doesn’t diminish the beer.

750 ml bottle batch 18 purchasd at Spirits RB. Hazy orange pour that starts off with a huge velvety smooth head that disipates into lots of large bubbles and lace. Big spicey yeasty aroma with notes of coriander, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and tropical fruit. Flavor had some slight metallic notes that were not pleasant. Flavor also consisted of lots of spice cloves, corriander, under ripe fruit, yeast and bread. A little more age might help this one out.

750ml caged and corked. Batch 17. Decent, but largely underwhelming nose. Spicy aroma accented by a large amount of Belgian yeast. Spiced pie crust, rubber band, orange zest, and some earthiness. Mostly clear burnt orange in the glass with a decent sized white head. Dry and spicy yeast dominates the palate initially with undercurrents of of fruit rind and earth. A touch of sourness with some interesting woodsiness. Creamy with expected mouth filling carbonation.

cloudy toffee colored pour with white head and minor lacing. aroma of nutmeg, other spices, nuttiness (almonds?) and malt. flavor has some sourish fruit, yeast and malt, dry finish. good palate and spice. really nice, but not as aggressive as most belgian strongs. despite this, i am a picky audience in this field- it is a very good beer.

Colour is cloudy-amber orange. Minimal head on mine, but I think it was partly due to the glass I was provided with. Great peach-tangerine aroma. Smooth and tasty, hard to put my finger on the flavours, but not bitter or too alcoholic. I’m a fan of the Allagash beers and this one deserves the designation of "Grand Cru".

750mL. Pours a fairly transparent orange brown with just a small amount of head. Aromas are pretty typical of other tripels - caramel, roasted malt, some citrus notes. Taste is fairly full-bodied with a good deal of smoky malt and some sticky caramel. Nice amount of citrus bite towards the end. I think this one benefits from keeping open a half hour or so. I find that more citrus comes out in the flavor. This is a damn good beer and I wouldn’t expect anything less from Allagash.
