yemenmocha (344), Glendale, Arizona, USA Aug 4, 2009 Deep red amber hue with some haze from the yeast. Belgian lace present throughout the whole drinking experience, though initial head is somewhat flacid even with an aggressive pour.
Aroma suggests sweetness throughout. Malt, Wit/Hefeweizen yeasty fruity aromas, and some black tea aromas are present. Ceylon Fancy?
Medium bodied. A nice malty flavor, balanced though. Sweetness is great for those who like this style. Higher alcohol is very deceptive to me. For an alternative to pricey Belgian imports, give this one a try.
arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Jul 30, 2009 12oz bottle that I was looking forward to. Its a hazy orange color with candied fruit smells and a slightly fruity taste with grainy notes. This tastes like a belgian amber to me. This is pretty good but due to the sweetness it takes a while to drink...

Pours a cloudy copper orange with a medium creamy off white head that lasts awhile leaving decent lacing along the glass. The aroma is a fruity malt with yeast and spice. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet malt taste with licorice and a nice spicy finish. Easy to drink hiding alcohol nicely, a very good Belgian strong ale from Allagash. skweek (13), College Park, Maryland, USA Jul 26, 2009 Poured amber with a fair bit of head. Flavor has a nice bit of fruitiness and winter spices. Very good beer. Batch 18, aged about 2 1/2 years. Held up very well, I kinda wish I would have sat on this for another 6 months, would be excellent on a cold day. jrallen34 (123), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 22, 2009 I drank this from the bottle into a chalice.
It darks dark clay red with a big creamy, long lasting light tan head and great lacing.
It smells sour like tea, and hints of hops and citrus.
Things were off to a good start and I had high hopes, then I drank it. Horrible.
There is light tea taste, overall its a very simple soft taste with lots of taste. There are hints of nutmeg and cinammon as well.
A very poor effort. Jblauvs (531), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 11, 2009 Orange Amber pour with white frothy. yeasty and sweet, earthy with some lemon zest. effervescent mouthfeel. cinnamon and clove spice and some fig and apple fruity notes. No reall alcohol presence, a very dry finish which leaves an oaky smokey taste in the throat. Very enjoyable nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 21, 2009 750 ml, batch 19. Amber with a lasting inch of meringue. Spicy clean aroma of earthy apple, with a twist of lemon juice and nutmeg. Front flavors are similar with some coriander and cinnamon notes. Finish is spicy toasted walnut and bitterish peat and oak. Medium body is creamy smooth, drinkable, and crisply dry on the finish. daleharshman (181), San Diego, California, USA Jun 14, 2009 750mL bottle corked and caged from Holiday Wine Cellar (Escondido, CA). Batch #15 -- from my research, it appears that this is around 2.5 years old. Pours a deep orange-amber. One finger of white frothy head with amazing staying power. Really, I’m still waiting for it to dissipate and it’s just not happening. Fragrant aroma of flowers, jasmine, tropical fruit, and banana. Flavor is really complex and difficult to describe but there is a nice mellow fruitiness and a hint of spice Nicely hopped with a bit of lingering bitterness in the finish. Overall, there is an excellent balance between the sweet and the bitter. Near the bottom of the glass now, and still the foamy head is holding up! A very good beer -- I think the aging did it well.
