Ungstrup (14758), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 8, 2006 A hazy orange beer with a lazing orange head. The aroma is sweet and very spicy - especially coriander comes thru, but it also has light notes of oranges. The flavor is sweet - somewhat too sweet and sticky for my liking, with notes of malt, oranges, and peaches, leading to an end with a slight alcohol burn. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Oct 8, 2006 Orange/amber, with a white head. Fruit, yeast, hops, and caramel aroma. Flavors are fruit, hops, caramel, and spices. Medium bodied. madsberg (4875), Søborg, Denmark Oct 8, 2006 Bottled. Amber coloured. Unclear. Light beige head. Sweet, herbal, fruity and caramelly aroma. Flavour is flowery, caramelly, has alcoholnotes and fruitnotes. Is quite citric and acidic and quite grapish sour. Medium bodied. Nice balanced. Light bitter and sweet in the end. Good one. joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 8, 2006 Bottle.
Hazy amber coloured with an off white head.
Aroma of fruits, spices and celery.
Flavour of fruits, spices, celery and rubber. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Sep 26, 2006 I’m tasting this side-by-side with the Allagash White so that I can do a direct comparison... The Allagash Grand Cru
is an color and nearly clear. Mild carbonation with foamy light orange head. Aroma is sweet, malty, and yeasty. Flavor is quite sweet , mostly malt, some fruit (apple maybe?), and some subtle spice. Finishes slightly yeasty with a little spice, some alcohol, and a honey-like sweetness. Mellow, smooth, and quite good. This is a really good beer at a great price (with cool packaging too!) - highly recommended!
750 mL bottle (Batch 11, corked, 7.2% alcohol), $5.99 from River’s Bend. dmradus (225), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 24, 2006 Pours a hazy orange bordering on brown, with an off-white head that (for me) only lasted in lacing and a thin film perched atop the brew. Aroma is funky and interesting: clove, coriander, citrus fruit, and a subtle yeastiness contribute to a scent that I could feel (literally feel) get up into my nostrils - think of what a mentholated cough drop feels like when you breath in, and then transfer that (at a lesser magnitude) to your nose - very cool. Taste-wise this is prototypically Belgian but mellower than many others: orange and spice predominates, with a yeastiness that adds character. The finish here is noteworthy: a noticeable hop bitterness works with and against a yeasty sweetness. The finish lasts and lasts. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Sep 9, 2006 Pours deep hazy amber with a beige fluffy head. Aroma has lots of earthiness, kiwi, passion fruit, black pepper, spices and green apple. Medium body with a good amount of carbonation. Taste starts with pepper, tart apple, nectar fruit - it is somewhat creamy and tart. Finish has some spicy hops and other spices. At the very end the Belgium yeast comes through. A very enjoyable winter ale that is just as good in the summertime. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Sep 9, 2006 bottle from my foster santa. insomnia, bacon egg and cheese sandwich, back porch waiting for the sunrise, and a beer. that’s how a saturday should begin. hazed orange body with a clingy lye soap colored head. smells of cream cheese, grapes, and hair spray. slightly spiced sweetness greets me first, it resolves into a jellybean flavor that lingers. something in this makes me think wheat? some wood notes are here also. i hear the paper delivery guy missing driveways. a touch of bitterness around the sides of my mouth that has a floral edge to it. some cinnamon in this also. an enjoyable brew, and a good start to a day.
