Commercial Description:
Allagash Grand Cru is deep golden in color, and has a firm yet refined malty palate. Taste and aroma have suggestions of smoke and licorice, with subtle hints of fruit and spice. An excellent beer to enjoy during the cooler seasons.

Cloudy orange, almost no head, but there is a small ring of foam. Nice aroma, notes of maple and caramel, which is echoed in the flavor. Crisp but mellow ho finish. Sampled at Noogfest2.

Batch #12. Hazy amber. Full sized, fizzy, tan head made of large, well spaced bubbles. Nose is bready, yeasty, a bit of clean smoke (could be suggestion, maybe not as the licorice escapes me), some musty funk, fruits, caramel malt, and spices. Same flavors with some toastiness and peppery notes. Dry, yeasty finish. Full, doughy, balanced body. Very flavorful, very drinkable. Another top notch brew from Allagash.

Pint Bottle: Pours an orange-red color. Thick foamy soft head. Aroma is nice. Palate is soft and quite nice. Not as much spice as I’ve come to expect in a belgian ale. Some fruity tones, a touch of alcohol, bananas.

Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours a hazy bronze color with a big off-white head. aroma of spices, citrus, and fruit. Flavor is carbonated, smooth, citrus, and fruit just like the aroma.

The flavor simply does not do the beutifull appearance and aroma of this beer justice. Orange with a slighlty brown hue and an aroma to be treasured. Spiced candied fruits and yeast as well as mild cloves and artificial bannanas. The mouthfeel, however is a bit chalky and unflavorfull. A syrup texture through the middle and yes, I do detect a little licorice. Just a little unbalanced beacause of the contrast between the outstanding aroma and fairly average flavor.

Lovely and cloudt burnt-orange color with a small white head that came down to a ring and lasted for a while. Aroma is fruity at first, then malt comes in. Good body with the same fruity tastes. Slightly malty and a little spice in the finish. Maybe even some oak flavor in there. Went down easily, and it warmed as it did. Nice beer, would have been even better by a fire while snowing.

750ml bottle. It’s been about 2 - 3 years since I’ve had this one. I am only now going through my list and adding ratings...I recall this one just after Yule season, very nice on a cold day, sweet and aromatic. Not too heavy and a nice head.

Batch 5 thanks to BBB63. Poured in to my Duvel tulip. Briliant clear amber with cherry and chestnut highlights. A billowing white head forms, and clings to the glass as it fades. Sugar, citrus, oak, smoke, can be detected in the aroma. The flavor is mostly candied fruits, and some yeast character. Nice body and easy to drink. Very mellow. Just caught some added spice. Nice. Thanks Mike.
