jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands Sep 19, 2004 Fruity (orange) aroma with some flowers. Hazy, orange color, beige head, good lace. Light sweet, light spices, bitter, very fruity, very hoppy and also flowers in the flavor. Medium body and a sweet finish that lasts forever. Not a great belgian-copy, drinkable but I wouldn’t buy a second. snoot (277), Anaheim, California, USA Sep 18, 2004 Pours a brown, smallish off white head. A lot of malt in both the aroma and the flavor. The mouthfeel is a little thin. MAP (1085), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Aug 30, 2004 Bonze color, small head. Aroma is like a malty iced tea, malt, cherry and spice as well. Mouthfeel is thinner, not too much maltyness or hop bitterness, but more focused on a spiced flavor. There definately is a smokey flavor to it as well. Suprising balance between easily drinkable and complex. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Aug 29, 2004 Amber hue, hazy, smallish off-white head. Very zesty aroma, grassy and orangey hops marry the honeysuckle and mild alcohol very well. Nice balance typical to Allagash. Not quite as flavorful as expected as far as the taste goes though, but there are nice malty hints approaching chocolate or caramel and definite honey in there. The mild bitterness balances intense sweetness and yeastiness. A bit too airy in the texture department, very bubbly and light at the same time. JackLanders (55), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Aug 24, 2004 Nice head, good bracing dose of hops wioth a slightly aggressive maltiness. Robust, yet not heavy. The spiciness is mild and does not dominate. This is the only Belgian ale I’ve ever had that could qualify as a good session beer. A good introduction to the Belgian styles for someone new to this end of the beer world. All around a very good, worthy beer. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA Aug 16, 2004 Updated: Sep 5, 2005Copper with a decent-sized head. Malty/phenolic aroma. Spicy/phenolic taste. Good, but I was expecting a bit more.
RERATE: Better than last time, but the coriander doesn’t seem to blend with the other flavors as well as it should. REDDOGICE (202), nantucket, Massachusetts, USA Jul 7, 2004 They must love their beer. it tastes like they make it with love. I sound crazy dont i. but its true.... i think that it is a great beer. frankR (145), Davis, California, USA Jul 3, 2004 Bronze color on the pour. Spicy and malty nose. Spicy maltiness is dominant. Finish is yeast spicy and CO2 dry. Dry but heavy mouth feel. Enjoyable ale.
