Duke (117), New York, USA Mar 22, 2004 Not impressed. It's ok but not up to the ratings it is getting. Very fruity aroma usually a plus, but for some reason it just isn't here. Peaches and pears maybe. After taste is too dry, acidic, sour and bitter. I don't find it balanced. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Mar 16, 2004 Updated: May 2, 2004Cloudy amber color with medium sized head. Spicy and hoppy aromas. Flavors of malt, clove, yeast and grapefriuts. Finish was mellow bubblegum and sweetness. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Mar 15, 2004 This beer was sampled at the 12 Hour Belgian Beer Fest 2004 in San Diego. This beer had the privelege of being beer #400...woo hoo beer fests! This poured a clear red color, with a thin, off-white slightly pearlish head which basically just clung to the side of the glass and died. The aroma was heavy on the peaches and other fruits with a big ole hint of yeasts and something lemony..perhaps ginger. The taste had a big helping of spices and wood with a syrupy necatarine finish. Sweet malts also dominate the finish..and did I mention fruits...wood...fruits...wood...and more fruits and wood. Dry malty finish, but a fine Grand Cru! Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Mar 11, 2004 Had this the same night as Flying Fish Grand Cru. Alllagash is much better with more complex flavors and aromas. Nice light color with a cloudy golden appearance with a delicate white head. LEaves nice lacing. Flavor is slightly sour and moderately malty with some spice and earthy tones. Some yeast and herbs tend to dominate the aftertaste, but not too much. Very smooth and drinkable beer. BBB63 (4198), La Porte, Indiana, USA Mar 11, 2004 Slighty hazy orange amber hue with frothy white head and nice lace. The aroma hints of buttered biscuit, sweet fruits, aromatic and piney hops, coriander, cardamom, and earthy yeast esters. The taste starts candy sweet with a hint of bready character. The midsection comes with some piney bitterness, citrus, and spices. The finihs display an yeasty quality that lingers upon the palate. The mouthfeel is lively and smooth, the alcohol is weel hidden. A very good beer but not quite up to the standards of the great Belgians. You could much worse for an American example of style however. Give it a try. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 7, 2004 sweet malts., orange and spices aroma. Nice taste of pears and banana, with alcool warming you up. Good body. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Mar 1, 2004 750 mL bottle, snifter. Caramel malt, spices and earthy hops. Deep hazy brown-red body. Lighter malt flavor than I was expecting. A little too much with the spices. Medium body, creamy/watery texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: the spices are sitting well with me right now. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA Mar 1, 2004 A great choice for my 1,000th rating. Pours a hazy, yet shiny golden color, with an amber hue in the light. A big puffy cloud like head, that never goes away, and leaves some incredible lacing. The aroma is like a bakery, bready, with some sugary sweetness in the background. The flavor needs more of a malt backbone, it is found wanting. The hops are present, and leave a nice sticky sweetness lingering in the mouth. The alchohol is very well masked, and the flavors are great, light and fruity. A little too much corriander, but that is my only complaint. Thanks to Buch Dich!
