Allagash Grand Cru is deep golden in color, and has a firm yet refined malty palate. Taste and aroma have suggestions of smoke and licorice, with subtle hints of fruit and spice. An excellent beer to enjoy during the cooler seasons.

Batch #2: I found this to be very nice. Nice tart fruit flavors of granny smith apples, grape and dark fruit. Also a fair amount of spice complement nicely. Very nice.

Magnificent! Although I havenít liked the other Allagash brews Iíve tasted, this oneís in a league of its own. Terrifically spiced, like a delicious vienna lager more than a Belgian brew. Slightly herbal.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2007 Corked version is superior to its 12 oz. counterpart. (12 oz.) Points deducted for turning watery with age. Oh boy. How rare it is to sample a Grand Cru from the states! Aroma is full of coriander, and figs, toasty malts linger forever with some grand olí spiciness. One of the longest finishes I have ever enjoyed. Undertones of toast and caramel. At just over $12 a six pack, I am jumping for joy. This beer is the perfect match for the wine cellar. Thank God for these brewing gurus! One of my favorite breweries.

Tawny amber body, offwhite head with lacing, spicy nose. Sweet, mildly spicy, slightly peppery.

Dark orange color. Huge aroma of hops, and rich malt which lends to notes of grape, alcohol also trying to break through. Surprisingly hoppy body with a good sweet malty backbone. Nice amount of dark fruit and finishes with hints of yeast and bitter hops. Very nice beer, but suffered from too much hops.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2003 Re-rate Deep reddish amber. Beautiful head and lace. This is strange but smells exactly like a lilly(get em for my girl alot, they smell up the whole room). I also get hints of malt, fruits and spices. Nice, almost toasty malt backbone. Berry fruitness, wonderful pepper and corriander spicyness, creamy mouthfeel with a long, sweet, spicy aftertaste. Very complex and very tasty. I appreciate much more the second and third time around. A damn good brew.

Foamy head with an airy aroma. Loose texture. Canít put my finger on the flavor. The 7.2% ABV was nicely masked.

The label says beer brewed with spices, and the flavor compliments the label. I can taste nothing but interesting spices. Has a very different flavor. This is not a beer I would go for again though. I think the weird spice is clove, but I canít really pinpoint it.

Smells strongly of spice and pepper. Slight hints of banana. Had a cola type color.

Spicy like something meant for a Christmas celebration. Clove and pine nose with a taste that reminded me of Hair of the Dog brews! Very sweet at the end, as if it was made with sugars. This was from batch #2 (printed on the label).
