Commercial Description:
Allagash Grand Cru is deep golden in color, and has a firm yet refined malty palate. Taste and aroma have suggestions of smoke and licorice, with subtle hints of fruit and spice. An excellent beer to enjoy during the cooler seasons.

Very special beer, really. The spice components are fantastic; it could be the most peppery beer I’ve ever had. The fruit is mellow to the max, the coriander (perhaps...same as Jacobite?) is intense, the clove is barely there in comparison. Medium-bodied, very effervescent, striking flavors, long long very dry finish. Outstanding, and thanks Jayme for sending it.

75cl bottle from Pristine Liquors (Spring Hill, FL). Pours an opaque dark copper color with a thick and foamy white head that settles slowly. Head provides lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of caramel and honey. Hints of nuts, spice and yeast. Flavor is sweet malt, candy sugar, banana, some ripe fruit, maybe some apples and plums. Generally medium bodied with sweet malty finish. Nice ale.

(Bottle). Spicy fruit aroma. Hazy orange color with thin head. Flavor is fruity with spice and sweetness. Rather soda pop-ish, and not too impressive. Compared to something like Rochefort 8, this Allagash lacks complexity and character.

Hazy orange-brown with a pillowy head. Aroma has some mild bread and sugar with a hefty dose of spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, and a hint of yeast. Flavor is a bit spicy with some mild apples, yeast, spices, and a hint of citrus. Not bad, just not my favorite Allagash brew.

Bottle from John’s Marketplace in Portland, OR--Poured a hazy orange-yellow with a thick whitish head. Fruity, nutty, apple, orange and caramel nose. Lots of yeasty Belgian notes. Spicy, grainy, and very quaffable.
