2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 Pastor (700) - Eliot, Maine, USA - JAN 1, 2008
The 750 ml bottle from batch 16 poured a cloudy ruby orange with a white billowy head. Aromas of Bananas and Belgium yeast along with a complement of spices filled my nose. This ale had a nice clean mouth feel with a dry finish. The flavors of this one was surely a surprise for a grand cru it was a lot more bitter than I expected for the style. The hops and citrus flavors were very pronounced with a sweetness lightly coming thru towards the finish. This is really interesting brew but I have had much better grand cru’s especially in this price range .I’ll finish this one but won’t be looking for more.

Pours a deep hazy golden-amber color, nose is like a bag of rotten potpouri, taste is super boozy, well too overcarbonated, grab bag of spices, anise, pepper, dark candy sugar, just not my taste at all.

(Bottle 75 cl) Slightly hazy amber golden with an off-white head. Fresh, lightly citrusy nose with a touch of yeast. Light and slightly watery. Sweetish, spicy notes of both citrus and coriander. No bitterness. 061006

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20 lb4lb (2026) - Austin, Texas, USA - APR 12, 2009
Pours golden with an orange rich haziness and a light beige head. Smell is sweet and yeasty with light spice notes. Taste is sweet caramel, belgian yeast and body is full and creamy. Just too sweet and yeasty for me...
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Davhgbrew (418) - Boca Raton, Florida, USA - SEP 20, 2002
The label says beer brewed with spices, and the flavor compliments the label. I can taste nothing but interesting spices. Has a very different flavor. This is not a beer I would go for again though. I think the weird spice is clove, but I can’t really pinpoint it.
2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Vac (2442) - Soon to be back in San Diego, California, USA - JUL 28, 2002
Not impressed. The Appearance was nice with a thick head, leaving some good belgian lace on my glass. The Aroma was Spicy with a hint of citrus, not bad. But, that is where I stopped liking this beer. The flavor just wasn;t there for me. I was very disapointed.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 roomtempbeer (185) - Franklin, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 17, 2003
Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a cloudy brown-orange with medium head that dissipates quickly leaving a thin film of head. Aroma is of a belgian ale or Unibroue 10 - orange/citrus like. Flavor is citrusy with a mildly bitter ending. Not a fan of the Belgian ales, i guess. Sampled at 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

It’s no Allagash White! It makes Josh ’Hoppy’. Prolly would be good with food, but just sampling in the bar it was a little heavy/strong for my liking. I don’t know maybe I got a bad one seeing how so many others enjoyed!
