whaleman (2168), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 4, 2006 Golden-amber body with fine particulate matter and a modest beige head. Aroma of coriander, clove, pepper, and oranges. Nicely balanced flavor of peppery phenols, spice, mild alcohol, warm toasty malt, citrus, light bubble gum, honey sweetness and some herbal hops plus gentle bitterness. A good, very drinkable Belgian-style American beer.
emacgee (1052), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2008 Pours a red orange with some haze. The head was 1-2 fingers thick, creamy, yellow. Thenose was sweet lightly spiced, some nutmeg, lighly belgian. The flavor was a bit grainy, spicy, sweet, lightly funky, warm. The palate was smooth and fully carbonated. Finishes sweet and spicy blutt59 (679), Dallas, Texas, USA Aug 28, 2008 bottle, batch 17, cloudy golden color, spicy fruit nose, flavor is spiced, marinated peaches, nice fruity finish kiefdog (416), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 27, 2008 75cl bottle from Pristine Liquors (Spring Hill, FL). Pours an opaque dark copper color with a thick and foamy white head that settles slowly. Head provides lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of caramel and honey. Hints of nuts, spice and yeast. Flavor is sweet malt, candy sugar, banana, some ripe fruit, maybe some apples and plums. Generally medium bodied with sweet malty finish. Nice ale. DrDavid (188), , Vermont, USA Aug 26, 2008 (Bottle). Spicy fruit aroma. Hazy orange color with thin head. Flavor is fruity with spice and sweetness. Rather soda pop-ish, and not too impressive. Compared to something like Rochefort 8, this Allagash lacks complexity and character. JB175 (1327), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 17, 2008 Hazy orange-brown with a pillowy head. Aroma has some mild bread and sugar with a hefty dose of spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, and a hint of yeast. Flavor is a bit spicy with some mild apples, yeast, spices, and a hint of citrus. Not bad, just not my favorite Allagash brew.
