Commercial Description:
The base of the beer includes English two-row malt and pale crystal malts, establishing an understated sweetness. To give Hugh Malone its hop character we use generous portions of Simcoe hops at three points in the brewing process. To begin with, we use a technique referred to as first wort hopping, in which Simcoe is added to the sweet wort as it enters the kettle. When the wort comes to a boil in the kettle we add Warrior hops, adding another layer to the bitterness of the beer. Later in the brewing process we steep a large amount of Simcoe in the whirlpool to impart a distinct hop aroma. Finally, during secondary fermentation in our conditioning tanks, we dry hop the beer, which instills a hoppy aroma with notes of pine and grapefruit. This 8.5 % ABV ale has a malty palate and a pronounced bitterness. It has a pleasant dry, hoppy finish. Original Gravity: 1080 by volume. Recommended Serving Temp: 45 degrees to 50 degrees F. Recommended Cellaring Temp: 55 degrees F

Nicely done IPA. I thought it was an Irish dry, and yet it wasn’t overly dry. Yeasty and a body to it. Some interesting IPA with a cloudy peachy colour and some white head. Fruity hoppy malty aroma. A bit dry finish, otherwise nicely done hoppy ale.

Bottle. Poured deep amber, with a moderate sized tan head. Piney hops dominate the aroma, along with caramel malt and bark. Flavor starts out with malty sweetness with yeast and some herbal notes; hops don’t show their presence until close to the finish. Long, resinous hop finish. Aroma is more appealing than the flavor. Not a bad strong ale, but from the commercial description, I expected more hops.

750ml bottle. Poured brownish, orangeish red (if thats a color). Small white quickly diminishing head. Aroma of rubbing alcohol. Taste of raisons, dark fruit, and candy sugar. Made with lots of simcoe hops? I don’t know where they are, because i didn’t find them. Disappointing, especially for the price.

750ml from Halftime - $15. Very high expectations, very quickly dashed. A very well made beer but just not delicious. Medium brown color, some fruit/hops aroma but nothing great. Lots of yeast and carbonation. Definitely skip this one.

750 ML Bottle-poured orange/amber color w/a moderate head. Dark fruit aroma. Flavors of plums, grapes, pine, peat, grape, & grass. Kind of gamey, reminded me of the Four but not as "refined", a little rougher around the edges. Nice change of pace, after dinner, nightcap type beer. Mouth feel is kind of thin. Alcohol is evedent.

Thanks to my SS for this one! Slightly hazy deep cinnamon body that tosses up a thick, lasting head of light tan. Caramel malt and pears in the nose. Sweet smooth, but rather one-dimensional.

This beer pours a deep cloudy reddish orange color with a medium white head. The initial aromas remind me of an ipa... Kinda grassy and piney. Once you take a sip, you get disappointed very quickly! This beer falls really short! Kinda watery, a little bland and not any character to this beer. I would consider this a VERY mild ipa. I actually paid $19.00 for this thing! I hesitated on buying it for wuite some time because of the price. I wish I had trusted my instincts. Do not buy this beer it is not worth the price! Cheers!

Bottle shared with GregClow, Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and Jerc, courtesy of Harry. Mild yeast, sugar, malt aroma. Glowing reddish orange, medium white head - looks great. Taste - decent - sweet, sugar, yeast. Kind of bland and watery in finish. Didn’t leave much of an impression.
