2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 argo0 (9222) - Washington DC, USA - MAY 11, 2007
(750ml bottle, thanks kmweaver) Cloudy dark amber body topped by small beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, orange, some alcohol. Taste is medium sweet, orange, some earthy, Belgian yeast, light wood, dry finish. Medium-full body. Despite the name, this seemed to have a fairly muted hop character.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 willblake (2601) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - MAY 10, 2007
10-May-07 750ml bottle Clouded, rusty-amber color with hefty white head of lasting, rocky foam. Aroma is signature Allagash beneath grassy, herbal, somewhat woody/pithy hops and very mild cookie malts. Deeper reflection reminds me of the musli I’ve been eating lately, which is full of nuts and seeds plus dried fruits. Mild and subtle, but more of a hodgepodge than having an obvious direction. Flavor is pleasant enough at first, yeasty, phenolic, and generic-fruity, it reminds of a sweetened breakfast cereal with some added bitters. Weird stuff. With temp, it gets just kooky and alcohol, though not that high, is just too apparent. Grapefruit pithiness emerges, giving at least a pleasant focal point to work through the rest of the bottle. Not sure what exactly what the point of this one was, but, for fourteen bucks, it was a miss.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jmuhops (666) - Winchester, Virginia, USA - MAY 6, 2007
Pours cloudy amber-orange with a two-finger white head. Aroma of floral hops, Allagash yeast, and citrus--mostly orange and peach, but some tart grapefruit. Odd flavor, and not exactly in a good way. It starts off a little like spiced apple juice, then turns yeasty. The finish is not suitably but rather subtly Simcoe: light grapefruit, pine, and bread that barely rises above wheatgrass mixed with that yeasty, phenolic apple juice. The blending is a lot more pleasant as the beer warms, but it never achieves Allagash-caliber greatness. Definitely worth a shot if you don’t mind the price tag, but don’t expect another Interlude.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAY 6, 2007
750 ml from Oaktree ($14.99?). Pours a very hazy (chill haze and yeast) deep dirty amber with a moderate carbonation and a large fluffy off white head with good retention and nice lace. Aroma is herbal and earthy hops- grassy, slightly phenolic, dirty yeast, doughy (cookie dough), light asparagus, and vegetal. Flavor is also phenolic and plasticy, dirty yeast, grassy hops, pine, some lemony citrus hints, and a wierd butyl estery finish. Kind of dissapointing from Allagash. Like Eric, I was anticipating this to be as enjoyable as Vuuve, Hop-it, or Houblon Choufe. Not even close to any of them. Overall this one is quite messy.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hophead75 (2005) - Largo, Florida, USA - MAY 2, 2007
on tap at Andy’s Corner Bar. Hazy amber in color with a medium white head. Aroma is floral/citrus hops with musty yeast, light spices, light notes of sugar and caramel. Taste is light to moderately hoppy with a decent amount of citrus/simcoe- yeasty and bready, lightly spicy, notes of caramel, but with citrus throughout, and a light lasting bitterness. Liked the simcoe character alot in this beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 egajdzis (4584) - Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 2, 2007
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2007 Poured a hazy amber color with a medium sized, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of grains, pine, floral hops, caramel malts, citrus, and a dirty Belgian yeast. Taste of citrus, pine, a bit of resin, with grass, citrus, somewhat tart, medium bitter, and a dry, yeasty, finish. Somewhat disappointing, I wanted to have this fresh, hoping it would be like McKenzie’s Vuuve when it came out...
