Commercial Description:
The base of the beer includes English two-row malt and pale crystal malts, establishing an understated sweetness. To give Hugh Malone its hop character we use generous portions of Simcoe hops at three points in the brewing process. To begin with, we use a technique referred to as first wort hopping, in which Simcoe is added to the sweet wort as it enters the kettle. When the wort comes to a boil in the kettle we add Warrior hops, adding another layer to the bitterness of the beer. Later in the brewing process we steep a large amount of Simcoe in the whirlpool to impart a distinct hop aroma. Finally, during secondary fermentation in our conditioning tanks, we dry hop the beer, which instills a hoppy aroma with notes of pine and grapefruit. This 8.5 % ABV ale has a malty palate and a pronounced bitterness. It has a pleasant dry, hoppy finish. Original Gravity: 1080 by volume. Recommended Serving Temp: 45 degrees to 50 degrees F. Recommended Cellaring Temp: 55 degrees F

Pours with an amber orange body topped by a medium thick to thcik head wtih a god amount of lacing left behind. It’s sweet with light fruit notes, a hint of spice and grassy hops. It’s light to medium bodied, slightly watery and smooth.

Dark ruby red with brown. A small light head. Aroma is abit strange at first. Taste is smooth and sweet with a lot of grainyness and some mellow hops and fruit. A bit dry even with all the sweetness. Very good.

Dank yeast and fruit in the aroma. Cloudy light brown color with a large almond head. This one exploded all over when I opened it. Sweet beginning with a tart finish. Sweet sticky palate.

Bottle pours medium copper orange with a creamy, slightly off white head. Sweet, citurs and honey aroma with a bit of yeast and bread. Thinner body than expected with a good amount of honey and fruit. A bit of dry hop bitterness at the end. Also, some orange at the swallow and aftertaste. Not sure whether or not I like it. Was expecting more bitterness from the description. A bit of staleness after a few tastes.

Bottle, 75cl. A hazy, orange to golden beer with a creamy beige head. Herbal, fruity nose with some cellar, quite a dash of sugars, some alcohol and hoppy touch Alcohol, sweetness, some pale malts, some herbal notes and hops in the mouth, warming and full-bodied. Quite effervescent. Dangerously easy to drink. More hop-driven than a Belgian ale uses to be, but pleasant. Could use a bit more sting and complexity. But definately not a beer I would shy away from. Pours a honey orange-amber with a large head. I don’t know why, but as soon as I’d released enough tension on the wire cage, the cork popped off and richocheted about the kitchen with immense velocity, just like in the cartoons! No bullshit! This was the first time I’d ever been compelled to take a "contents under pressure" warning seriously. The highlight of this beer is really the flavor: The first sip is brilliant with a thick viscosity full of hops and sweet fruits. Dark fruits, peaches, and more. I like the moderate alcohol burn in the esophagus too. Should be priced around $10 to $12. Overpriced at the $17 I paid for it, but that might be Bevereges & More!’s fault. Overall, not world-class, as one would expect from the price, but damn good nevertheless.
