| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 25, 2008 Updated: Nov 27, 2008Draught. Pours a hazy orange-gold, with a small off-white head and a wall of lacing. Nose is citrusy, a little yeast also. Not a big nose. Taste starts off with a citrusy hops and some lightly sweet, biscuity malt, just a bit toasty, made sharper by the firm carbonation, and a bit of a dry. Spicy yeast note. Hops turn more resiny around mid-palate, and then the yeast takes over with a big dryness - it’s like the taste is just sucked into a wall of off-dryness, from which emerges a nice, lingering pine bitterness to complement the yeast. Dryness lets up just a bit after awhile, letting the flavor of the yeast peek through carrying just a bit of the biscuity malt. Mouthfeel is firmly carbonated, medium bodied, just a bit oily. I would drink this beer again, for sure. bhensonb (4245), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 23, 2008 Bottle from BevMo in Vacaville, CA. Nice aromas of citrus hop over medium malt. Slightly hazy copper color. Very little head, but there are huge bubbles in the bottle. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is sweet malt which is rapidly submerged in a hop mix. Think there’s grapefruit and maybe a little resin. It finishes dry, but it doesn’t. It’s astringent towards the back of the mouth. It’s dry towards the front. Sweet keeps hanging somewhere. Goes bitter on the sides. My mouth keeps trying to curl around it; arguably a bit sticky, but not sweet sticky. Burps most brilliantly. Just keeps on getting better; better all the time... | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 21, 2008 Bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar. There is a mild aroma of honey, whole grain bread and minor background of citrus hops. Description of color is quite simple because it’s a plain golden blond with thin yet thick layer of white head. The flavor is overly hopped and hides the fact that this is a Belgian ale with the up front delivery of bitter and sticky citrus grapefruit and hop combination. Easy drinkability and taste is well rounded but I don’t know about the price tag matching the bottles contents. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 20, 2008 Clear gold with a rich frothy white head. The aroma is very piny and citric with strong Belgian yeast characteristics and toasted malt. The taste is bitter yet balanced with a subtle blend of citric and fruity hops with Belgian yeast sweetness. A really great brew and a nice segue from IPA’s into Belgian brews. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 15, 2008 Mostly clear auburn with a thick layer of off-white bubbles laying atop. The aroma starts mostly sweet with residual sugar, navel oranges, light pine, cake-y scones, mild honey and a faint bit of yeasty esters. The body fully and creamy with a nice carbonation that pricks the tongue only occasionally. The flavor profile shows much more hoppiness than I expected from the nose. The bitterness really comes out early, dips slightly in the middle and picks up again at the finish. The sweetness, grainy malt and alcohol all weave in and out with ease, but never truly challenge the citrus and piny bitterness. The finish starts dry, but I think that’s due to the bitterness, as some lingering sweetness finally comes around again. Good, but not my favorite American IPA/Belgian interpretation. durhambeer (1202), Durham, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 9, 2008 Sample from WBF in Durham; better than paying the top dollar for this one. Bright hazy golden pour. Strong alcohol taste overall, though floral hops and yeast are also present. Reminded me of a tripel. vyvvy (2034), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 9, 2008 Pours light bronze with a fizzy beige head. The aroma has musty caramel malt, Belgium yeast, earthy hops and mineral notes. Medium / full body with some mustiness and quite a bit of carbonation. The flavor starts with chewy malt, licorice, spicy / earthy hops, dark caramel and an overabundance of mineral traits. The finish has even more mineral presence. This is an okay beer, but is in no way up to the normal Allagash standards.
