pineypower (924), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Jun 14, 2007 Pours out a medium hue of copper with a big off white head. Aroma of fruit, citric hops and slight spice. Flavor is complex, but over the large spectrum. Lots going on, citrus hops, earthy and fruity notes that fade into a slight funky flavor. Bitter hops on the finish with slight dryness.
PilsnerPeter (1631), Flushing, New York, USA Dec 4, 2008 Tap at Barcade: Deep golden, hazy with a dense white head. The aroma is spicy and fruity hop character. Seems like orange marmalade with an apricot note as well with a peppery Belgian ester note. Dense creamy carbonation. The flavor has a somewhat sweet hop character of apricot, and orange. There is also a dusty Belgian yeast character which accentuates with rise in temperature. There is a touch of alcohol along with a later Belgian peppery hop finish. Not bad, I just expected more from Allagash. glennmastrange (466), hobe sound, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2008 Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt aromas of roasted, bread and caramel, light lemon and perfume for the hops, light to moderate notes of dough and earth for the yeast with hints of wood, wine and apple. Head is small, creamy, white with very little lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky tan. Flavorstarts slightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, oily and has a lively carbonation. A nice earthy beer, definitely a quality Belgian Strong. jefcon (874), Arlington, Virginia, USA Nov 27, 2008 I’m surprised to see that Simcoe hops are a component of this beer in the description, but that is certainly one of the reasons I like this beer so much. It has a rough, tart dandelion aroma and taste -- really well-integrated and balanced with other hops and lightly sweet caramel malts. Crisp and clean palate, grapefruit lingers on the finish. A good beer. hapjydeuce (622), Carlsbad, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bottled. Hazy orange color with very lacy white head. Strong and crisp hoppy aroma with robust citrus. The flavor and aroma are both dominated by strong and earthy Simcoe hops with orange peel, grapefruit, pear and Belgian yeast notes. Light and tingly carbonation accentuates the crisp palate even further. Finishes very dry with lasting bitterness. carl4beer (294), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Nov 1, 2008 750 cork n cage. pours hazy orangish gold with big white head. aroma is citrus with some caramel and sweetness. mouthful is very smooth with carbonation. flavors are mainly citrus hops but has a very crisp dry feel to the mouth. finish has some lingering hop flavors after the dryness wears off. i don’t get the belgian part or the price...
