Commercial Description:
The base of the beer includes English two-row malt and pale crystal malts, establishing an understated sweetness. To give Hugh Malone its hop character we use generous portions of Simcoe hops at three points in the brewing process. To begin with, we use a technique referred to as first wort hopping, in which Simcoe is added to the sweet wort as it enters the kettle. When the wort comes to a boil in the kettle we add Warrior hops, adding another layer to the bitterness of the beer. Later in the brewing process we steep a large amount of Simcoe in the whirlpool to impart a distinct hop aroma. Finally, during secondary fermentation in our conditioning tanks, we dry hop the beer, which instills a hoppy aroma with notes of pine and grapefruit. This 8.5 % ABV ale has a malty palate and a pronounced bitterness. It has a pleasant dry, hoppy finish. Original Gravity: 1080 by volume. Recommended Serving Temp: 45 degrees to 50 degrees F. Recommended Cellaring Temp: 55 degrees F

Bottle. Rich copper amber beer with a dark cream colored head. Light sweet malt aroma with a bit of oak and fruity hops. Medium bodied. Rich malt flavor with a bit of caramel, slight grass, light spice and some fruit. Lingering malt with a bit of grass and earth.

on tap @ The Ginger Man, NYC. Relly enjoyed this one. Pours a deep golden orange. Aroma is somewhat hop filled with grapefruit, sticky piney, with a Belgian mustiness to it. Taste was dry with, medicinal herbalness to it. Nice mild hop bitterness also. Remarkably smooth & refined. Really liked

On tap @ Brick Store. Pours an ambery gold with dense, taut head, some sticky lacing. Nose is grapefruity, somewhat musty, with a solid biscuit malt backbone and grassy esters. Rich and smooth on the palate without being too overwhelming, starting with a crisp zesty rind character before smoothing out into a belgian yeast fullness, this is dangerously quaffable. Quite nice.

On tap at the Brick Store. Pours a slightly hazy bright golden amber with a big puffy white head that lasted the duration of the session and left very good lacing. The smell is subdued and balanced for an IPA with some citrus hops but a significant sweet bready malt aroma as well. Taste is also heavy with sweet malts with the hops playing a supporting role. The mouthfeel is very creamy with good carbonation and a slight hop bitterness in the finish. Very crisp and clean. This is an extremely nice beer and the low-key hop profile makes it more drinkable than the alcohol indicates. Recommended.

Bottle Pours out a hazy orange topped with a white head. Aroma of citrus hops and some grass. Tast more of the citrus hops and also some earth tones. A tasty brew.
