Commercial Description:
The base of the beer includes English two-row malt and pale crystal malts, establishing an understated sweetness. To give Hugh Malone its hop character we use generous portions of Simcoe hops at three points in the brewing process. To begin with, we use a technique referred to as first wort hopping, in which Simcoe is added to the sweet wort as it enters the kettle. When the wort comes to a boil in the kettle we add Warrior hops, adding another layer to the bitterness of the beer. Later in the brewing process we steep a large amount of Simcoe in the whirlpool to impart a distinct hop aroma. Finally, during secondary fermentation in our conditioning tanks, we dry hop the beer, which instills a hoppy aroma with notes of pine and grapefruit. This 8.5 % ABV ale has a malty palate and a pronounced bitterness. It has a pleasant dry, hoppy finish. Original Gravity: 1080 by volume. Recommended Serving Temp: 45 degrees to 50 degrees F. Recommended Cellaring Temp: 55 degrees F

Dark ruby red with brown. A small light head. Aroma is abit strange at first. Taste is smooth and sweet with a lot of grainyness and some mellow hops and fruit. A bit dry even with all the sweetness. Very good.

Bottle, 75cl. A hazy, orange to golden beer with a creamy beige head. Herbal, fruity nose with some cellar, quite a dash of sugars, some alcohol and hoppy touch Alcohol, sweetness, some pale malts, some herbal notes and hops in the mouth, warming and full-bodied. Quite effervescent. Dangerously easy to drink. More hop-driven than a Belgian ale uses to be, but pleasant. Could use a bit more sting and complexity. But definately not a beer I would shy away from. Pours dark copper, almost amber and hazy. A generous head of off white froth rose quickly to at least an inch and a half. The thick foam settled down within a few minutes, with no lacework. Aromatics are laced with caramel drizzeled hard candies with peachy, earthy undertones. A bit resinous and sugary, with a balancing citrus nod. Belgianesque in a big way with plenty of phenols..Apples, cloves, and some bubblegum. The nose finishes out with candied tangerine segments and whiff of cracked garlic. The mouthfeel is tacky and sticky, with enough carbonation to keep it from getting cloying. The pallet is sweetish and laden with malt, brown sugar, and a spicy bitterness. Hopping is not very prevalent other than whats evident in the bitterness. Warming with a smooth bitterness, and punctuated with chipped toffee and citrus fruits. Finishes sticky, clovey and warming. Certainly not within the realm of IPA, but tasty nonetheless.

750ml via trade a while back. Shared with Cyn, dinner of Gazapacho and grilled jerk tofu. Read the reviews and thankfully mine was not a gusher. Pours orange and bubbly with a nice 2 finger tan head. Nose has some sweet fruity yeast in it. Taste is sweet and light with some clear cut hoppiness. This is certainly another interesting interpretation of the style by Allagash, this is a hoppy belgian but not quite a belgian IPA. Pretty tasty better than the last few raters thought at least. Complex and interesting.

Poured a dark unfilted reddish color witha white head. Had some lacing. Had hints of simple sugars, sour fruits, dry hops. Finished with a hoppy oak taste on the tongue.

Poured dark brown with 1 inch of tan head. Clinging, foamy lace. Aromas of malty wheat and some sour yeast. After smelling, the taste threw me off guard. Contrasting to the sour scent, this beer contains flavors of nutty malts, caramel, huge grains, slightly bitter with a well rounded palate. Very warming, if off-balanced. High carbonation. Pretty good.

750ml bottle. Full rich orange-brown color, assumably unfiltered. Sweet, herbal, and a little spicy. Piny aftertaste and aroma. Lots of subtle hopping. Full of flavor, and balanced enough to pull it off in a classy fashion.

Bottle pours medium copper orange with a creamy, slightly off white head. Sweet, citurs and honey aroma with a bit of yeast and bread. Thinner body than expected with a good amount of honey and fruit. A bit of dry hop bitterness at the end. Also, some orange at the swallow and aftertaste. Not sure whether or not I like it. Was expecting more bitterness from the description. A bit of staleness after a few tastes.
