COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The base of the beer includes English two-row malt and pale crystal malts, establishing an understated sweetness. To give Hugh Malone its hop character we use generous portions of Simcoe hops at three points in the brewing process. To begin with, we use a technique referred to as first wort hopping, in which Simcoe is added to the sweet wort as it enters the kettle. When the wort comes to a boil in the kettle we add Warrior hops, adding another layer to the bitterness of the beer. Later in the brewing process we steep a large amount of Simcoe in the whirlpool to impart a distinct hop aroma. Finally, during secondary fermentation in our conditioning tanks, we dry hop the beer, which instills a hoppy aroma with notes of pine and grapefruit. This 8.5 % ABV ale has a malty palate and a pronounced bitterness. It has a pleasant dry, hoppy finish. Original Gravity: 1080 by volume. Recommended Serving Temp: 45 degrees to 50 degrees F. Recommended Cellaring Temp: 55 degrees F

out of the presentable cork and cage. Allowed about 1.5 years of age in my cellar. mild light fresh aroma, nothing to stringent or over powering. light golden with a litle bit darker hugh and full white fluffy/fizzy head. mild yeast presence with some mild fruit and malt notes in the flavor, smooth freshh crisp and solid palate. overal pretty smooth and light, not a very deep beer on the front but good from beginning to end.

12 ounce bottle poured into a Belgian tulip glass. The beer is a pale gold with a huge head of white foam. Very fluffy head. The aroma has musty and sweet grainy notes. Some mild banana notes. Some dried hay. Sweet and effervescent taste. Mild pine bitterness comes through. Lighter to medium body. Way more refreshing than I ever would have expected. Fairly dangerous, really. Medium carbonation.

One and only time having this was on 3.26.14. Bottled. I should start by saying, I love Simcoe so this will be a positive rate. The hops come through in the nose and in the taste. Not super juicy but I get some pine and a little bit of some oranges at the finish. Some yeastiness to the flavor.

From a bottle to a tulip. Pours a cloudy gold with a thick white head. The smell is a lot of hops and that distinctive fruity belgian yeast smell. I also get the lemon and pepper that you’d typically get in a saison. Without any surprise, the taste is citrusy and piny hops. Good bitterness and a dry finish.

appearance: clear golden, with a big, bright white, frothy head. aroma: bright--citrus is strong up front, with blood orange, grapefruit, and lemon zest; then comes honeyed graham crackers and a bit of pie crust and white pepper. taste: slightly sweet, crackery-honey malts, then floral, citrus, and grassy hops. finish: smooth, but also lively, with a bit of yeasty sweetness and a delicate dry palate. notes: Feels more like a Belgian IPA, but that’s just a quibble. What it is, is a great beer. Good palate. Just enough sweetness to add character and balance out a judicious and surgeon-like application of hops. Would drink again. Bottle from Roots Market in Olney, Maryland.
