Commercial Description:
The base of the beer includes English two-row malt and pale crystal malts, establishing an understated sweetness. To give Hugh Malone its hop character we use generous portions of Simcoe hops at three points in the brewing process. To begin with, we use a technique referred to as first wort hopping, in which Simcoe is added to the sweet wort as it enters the kettle. When the wort comes to a boil in the kettle we add Warrior hops, adding another layer to the bitterness of the beer. Later in the brewing process we steep a large amount of Simcoe in the whirlpool to impart a distinct hop aroma. Finally, during secondary fermentation in our conditioning tanks, we dry hop the beer, which instills a hoppy aroma with notes of pine and grapefruit. This 8.5 % ABV ale has a malty palate and a pronounced bitterness. It has a pleasant dry, hoppy finish. Original Gravity: 1080 by volume. Recommended Serving Temp: 45 degrees to 50 degrees F. Recommended Cellaring Temp: 55 degrees F

750 ml, bottle, cork comes out with a big pop, nice golden orange color, very good body and finish however taste is a bit thin, with a little more in the middle this could be really good

Bottled. Hazy orange color with very lacy white head. Strong and crisp hoppy aroma with robust citrus. The flavor and aroma are both dominated by strong and earthy Simcoe hops with orange peel, grapefruit, pear and Belgian yeast notes. Light and tingly carbonation accentuates the crisp palate even further. Finishes very dry with lasting bitterness.

750 cork n cage. pours hazy orangish gold with big white head. aroma is citrus with some caramel and sweetness. mouthful is very smooth with carbonation. flavors are mainly citrus hops but has a very crisp dry feel to the mouth. finish has some lingering hop flavors after the dryness wears off. i don’t get the belgian part or the price...

draft @ uber - mostly clear and a beautiful candy-red orange mix; huge white head; aromas of just amazing; sweet candy, spice and malty; drinks dry with lingering sweetness, but flavors are a little flat; this one is all about the nose

Draught. Pours a hazy orange-gold, with a small off-white head and a wall of lacing. Nose is citrusy, a little yeast also. Not a big nose. Taste starts off with a citrusy hops and some lightly sweet, biscuity malt, just a bit toasty, made sharper by the firm carbonation, and a bit of a dry. Spicy yeast note. Hops turn more resiny around mid-palate, and then the yeast takes over with a big dryness - it’s like the taste is just sucked into a wall of off-dryness, from which emerges a nice, lingering pine bitterness to complement the yeast. Dryness lets up just a bit after awhile, letting the flavor of the yeast peek through carrying just a bit of the biscuity malt. Mouthfeel is firmly carbonated, medium bodied, just a bit oily. I would drink this beer again,

Bottle from BevMo in Vacaville, CA. Nice aromas of citrus hop over medium malt. Slightly hazy copper color. Very little head, but there are huge bubbles in the bottle. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is sweet malt which is rapidly submerged in a hop mix. Think there’s grapefruit and maybe a little resin. It finishes dry, but it doesn’t. It’s astringent towards the back of the mouth. It’s dry towards the front. Sweet keeps hanging somewhere. Goes bitter on the sides. My mouth keeps trying to curl around it; arguably a bit sticky, but not sweet sticky. Burps most brilliantly. Just keeps on getting better; better all the time...
