Commercial Description:
Interlude- somewhere between the leap and the landing. It’s a jazz solo, the riffing, the unexpected improvisation. Rooted in a Belgian theme, Interlude soars from a second fermentation with our own Brettanomyces yeast. Then takes five in French oak wine barrels that once cellared fine Merlots and Sirahs. And then bottle conditioning. In all, an outrageous effort to make a bottle of beer. But then, if you prefer to swing with magnificent red wine notes and funky farmhouse flavors dancing in the undercurrents of a crisp, remarkable brew, then Interlude has that thing. C’est le gout, toujours! It’s the taste that is always an adventure.

June 2009 bottle from Total Wine. Poured a very golden orange color with tiny head. Aroma was sour cherries, wine and oak. Taste was similar. Good carbonation that was very fizzy. Overall very enjoyable but overpriced at $18.

Pours a cloudy amber with a nice, off-white head. Nose is of funk with lemon, oak and spice. Taste is of fruit and oak. Mouthfeel is medium-thin and dry, with some alcohol and a slight tartness to it. Could be used as an introductory brew to sours. Liked this a lot.

Cask at GBBF 2009, 4th Aug 09. Murky amber with no head. Gentle sourness on the nose from the Brett. Toffee malt flavours mix with an evident merlot note from the evident wine barrel aging. Quite refreshing for a beer of this strength.

Poured into a tulip glass it was a little less carbonated than the bottle I had but it was to be expected from a cask pour. The brew was a slightly cloudy burnt orange with a light ring of bubbles at the top of the glass. I got aromas of funk and fruit, berries and blankets LOL. It has a great nose ant the flavor is up there too it is a nice sour. Not to mouth puckering and fruity enough to keep it real drinkable. The feel in my mouth was great but it needed some more carbonation. Two glasses of this was my limit but I enjoyed every drop. It is somewhat pricey but worth it for a special occasion

750ml bottle. Pours hazy amber with a small head that is short lived. Some spots of foam stays longer. Nose is tart, vinous, brett, acidic with lots of oak. Taste is tart, a bit sour and acidic. Lots of oak barrel Some funk and vanilla. Hints of apples, belgian yeast and fruits. The arome is very powerful and complex. However, the taste is a bit too much acidic and lactic for me. Really good stuff.

Bottle from Total Wine. Pours a very nice effervescent hazy reddish orange color with a 1 inch light tan head. Aroma is loads of fresh green fruits with a bit of barrely funk and a slight sweet tartiness. Flavor is full and refreshing with a mellow sourness, a good deal of funk, fresh fruits like pears and some citrus, a bit of oak and some tannins. Medium bodied with just a touch too much carbonation, it seems. Finishes deliciously dry.

Oh well, cant win them all.

Poured from the large bottle into a tulip glass to drink. The beer had a cloudy, dull amber-orange color with a lot of rising bubbles, and a smallish bubbly white head that had short retention and light cling. It had a complex aroma featuring grapes and citrus hops, with a mix of caramel malt and maybe a touch of candy. The beer had a bountiful fruit taste, with a mixture of different sweet fruity flavors and some candy-like aspects, and some lively bitterness too. It had a very carbonated, lively body, with a very full and bubbly mouthfeel. The beer was somewhat thin and dry, with some champagne characteristics. It improves as it settles and starts to warm a bit, becoming a very good beer. A great way to mark my milestone of 500 beers... That and the link to the Proclaimers!
