Commercial Description:
Interlude- somewhere between the leap and the landing. It’s a jazz solo, the riffing, the unexpected improvisation. Rooted in a Belgian theme, Interlude soars from a second fermentation with our own Brettanomyces yeast. Then takes five in French oak wine barrels that once cellared fine Merlots and Sirahs. And then bottle conditioning. In all, an outrageous effort to make a bottle of beer. But then, if you prefer to swing with magnificent red wine notes and funky farmhouse flavors dancing in the undercurrents of a crisp, remarkable brew, then Interlude has that thing. C’est le gout, toujours! It’s the taste that is always an adventure.

thanks Vyvvy for this sample. pours hazy orange with a small fizzy white head. nose is awesome-cinnamon, brett, brown sugar, lightly aged belgian malt and twangy yeast here. flavors definately show the fruityness of the brett yeast mixed wit hthe shirahs cask. the finish is lightly metallic which is my only gripe about this beer. lots of grapes on the finish (red). pretty good but not the beer i was thinking it would be.

This beer is OK. Has a strong taste of sour apple juice. Besides that it tasted like a decent enough Belgian.

2005 - Deep dark golden body with a big white head; Big nose, very nice aromas, lots of brett, lots of oak, lots of warm unfiltered apple juice, lots of orange juice and peel; Big body, elegant with soft carbonation, complex and balanced; Super long finish with tons of aroma and character, warmer notes aroma wise and actually quite a bit of oaky cow. Amazing beer. Thanks jjpm74!

The aroma is funky/fruity with some faint wood notes and a healty dose of sugar aromas. Smells nice, but not exactly what I expected. The body is bright orange/gold with a diminishing, but fluffy, white head. The fore is somewhat harsh and biting and assaults the tongue with hot alcohol. This subsides and it actually becomes quite soft and mellow. Oaky notes appear, but are very muted. It’s mostly a dry, fruity, funky affair with some lightly herbal bitterness in the finish and an increasingly funky/sour asspect as it warms.

2007 - Great looking cloudy peach and rusty golden orange colored body. Nose of old oranges, but that’s a small part of it – really it is mostly a musty yogurt and brett scent, soft and muddy, lightly acidic on the nose, but muddled would be the best word… it doesn’t really do much, just sits there muddled and the orange and brett smells don’t work together at all. Mildly crisp with a doughy orange and peach flavor, a little lactic, only slightly sour. Again it just doesn’t work, like it’s trying too many things, and it’s stuck between being a sour ale and being a sweet yeast-heavy Belgian golden. Still it certainly tastes good but it’s no godsend, it has it’s problems. The light yogurt and tannic flavors are nice, though.

2006 - a lot of apple, not green apple that you’d associate with acetylhyde, but a crisp red apple smell and flavor throughout the drink. Lots of biscuits and red apple skins, and a prickly and spicy brett character. I’m surprised at how different this is compared to both the 2007 and 2005... those two were more similar to each other, while this one is pretty different with all of the strange apple and candy sugar flavors.

2005 - Soft bretty nose, sweaty and fruity and spicy all at the same time - tart, dried fruit, banana and pineapple, lightly prickly and dry, Full, frothy, a bit of sweet honey as well. Quite good, but not huge development of brett.

A very complex beer. It has a nice aroma of grape and light fruit. Tastes more like a Flemish Sour than a traditional Belgian Strong Ale. . . if there is such a thing. Anyway, there is a nice tannin, with a buttery finish (inclusive of the sour apple and crisp fruits).

pours golden with small white head. smells funky grape wineness. taste has small notes of oak but is dominately acidic, tangy, tannin and white grape. i also pick up some sour apple and pear. i appreciate it but it gives me heart burn.

2006 bottle, courtesy of Degarth. Thanks, bro.

Pours a golden amber, with a small, long lasting, swirly off white head. Very nice lacing on the glass. Very creamy appearance to the head. Aroma of Belgian funk, driet fruits, banana, brett. Continuous C02 release from the bottom of the glass. Fore of the tongue is tart, slightly to medium astringency, some oak notes. Back of the tongue is banana, tartness, yeast, funk. Finish is tart, sour, biting, dry. As the beer breathed and warmed, the finish became a bit sweet as well, with all of the dry notes fading away. Excellent beer.
