Commercial Description:
Interlude- somewhere between the leap and the landing. It’s a jazz solo, the riffing, the unexpected improvisation. Rooted in a Belgian theme, Interlude soars from a second fermentation with our own Brettanomyces yeast. Then takes five in French oak wine barrels that once cellared fine Merlots and Sirahs. And then bottle conditioning. In all, an outrageous effort to make a bottle of beer. But then, if you prefer to swing with magnificent red wine notes and funky farmhouse flavors dancing in the undercurrents of a crisp, remarkable brew, then Interlude has that thing. C’est le gout, toujours! It’s the taste that is always an adventure.

Vintage 2006. A hazy orange-amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of both citrus and metal, from the alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty, but also with a hint of acidity, under the notes of citrus and wood. The acidity gets more pronounced towards the end.

The aroma of brettanomyces greets the olfactory bulb as soon as the cork pop. The visual cortex processes a murky orange-copper body topped by a fizzy off-white head that laces the glass in big weeping sheets. Further olfactory processing reveals some woodiness and vinous notes. Letting the taste buds in on the fun is well worth the wait. Funky barnyard flavors come out at first then some more vinous flavors, especially post swallow. The palate is wine like, other than the fact that is is carbonated of course. I like this one a lot. This is truly a beer to show wine aficionados what beer can do, this is as close to wine that I have ever tasted a beer. Lets see a wine that tastes even remotely like a beer (that is enjoyable!).

A sweet sour floral smell that really got my senses going. Surprisingly different taste from smell. Light and bitter with a citrus feel. Complex beer with a fruity carmel crisp finish.

Aroma is of yeast, flowers and caramel. Looks a hazy orange/yellow. Notes of alcohol, flowers and what I assume is the oak. Not as pleased with it as what I had hoped, but a very interesting beer. Nice for a walk on the aged side.

Rusty copper, fizzy off white head. Ultra complex nose of lemon, oak, and funk, with underlying vinous tones. Spicy hop tones play out upon further warming with added soft notes of sourdough bread. Flavor has more spicy hops notes up front that fade into a tangy citric, funky vinous, lightly sour oaky tone. A thinking mans beer without a doubt. Medium bodied, fizzy carbonation, light farmy tart finish. Very well put together beer, but the $18 per bottle price tag will make this a one time deal...
