Commercial Description:
Interlude- somewhere between the leap and the landing. It’s a jazz solo, the riffing, the unexpected improvisation. Rooted in a Belgian theme, Interlude soars from a second fermentation with our own Brettanomyces yeast. Then takes five in French oak wine barrels that once cellared fine Merlots and Sirahs. And then bottle conditioning. In all, an outrageous effort to make a bottle of beer. But then, if you prefer to swing with magnificent red wine notes and funky farmhouse flavors dancing in the undercurrents of a crisp, remarkable brew, then Interlude has that thing. C’est le gout, toujours! It’s the taste that is always an adventure.

Amber hazy body with mid sized head. Aroma is oaky with yeast. Flavour is citrus and malty with some cedar and toasty bread. ots of spices hit in the middle with a slightly dry finish.

By far, this is the best Allagash brew I’ve had to date. Poured an amber color with a small modest head that didn’t lace impressively. Appearance was the most plain part of the beer. The aroma was excellent, cherries, grapes, and apples with a touch of funk as it warmed. The flavor was way complex, cherries, vanilla, some hints of wine, and oak. The funk was almost absent initially (50F) outside of some musty presence. As it warmed, a very light and subtle barnhouse funk came out, but it certainly wasn’t the feature. Mouthfeel was intially thick and syruppy, but this thing thinned and became a delight after a few minutes (55F?). The carbonation was moderately done.

Vibrant copper-amber colour, with haze. Nice woody, bretty smell to it. Big, fruity, woody, toasty character. Complex with late alcohol to round things out. Interesting brew. Sorry about the notes, I was enjoying it more than studying it. Some beers are just like that.

04.28.06 750ml bottle at Paul’s Pre-TAPNY. Why in the world is this beer so expensive? I only ask because I really wish I could buy a bunch of it, but no way at over 17 bucks a bottle. The beer is a beautiful blend of sour wood, brisk and herbal hops, perfume-like hops and yeasts, and estery age. Perfume, wood, cherries, sour, and fantastically drying finish. Amazing, complex, delicious.

750, Hennepin glass, Noogfest. Hazy golden amber hue topped by a smallish white frothy head. Enormous bubblegum/banana aroma with strong cinnamon and wet leather undertones. Firm, lactic type sourness further below in the aroma. Aromas translate well to the flavor and a bright cherry and champagne like flavor finds its way into the finish. Soft herbal elements. Very well integrated, the wine and woody oak is a compliment and never overbearing. Smooth and velvety texture with lively carbonation. Beautiful.

Courtesy of Milkmandan. This is a very odd beer but what seems to be an experiment has turned out to be a success. Interlude has one of the best aromas I have experienced in a beer. There is very strong cherry, wood, apples, and weird yeast and bacteria as if naturally fermented. Light red in color with thin foam. The beer is sour with light cherry, and gets more sour as it warms. Substantial body, and the high abv is completely hidden in the aroma and flavor. A great success.

Wow. Medium amber, hazy, nice head. Aromas of apple, oak, and faint sourness. Quite inviting to say the least. Flavor matches, but is far more complex than I can give it any justice to here. Cherry notes came out as well to play with the bacterial critters. The intermingling was fantastic. This ranks up there with the Russian River experiments in using brett. I was highly impressed.
