COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Interlude- somewhere between the leap and the landing. It’s a jazz solo, the riffing, the unexpected improvisation. Rooted in a Belgian theme, Interlude soars from a second fermentation with our own Brettanomyces yeast. Then takes five in French oak wine barrels that once cellared fine Merlots and Sirahs. And then bottle conditioning. In all, an outrageous effort to make a bottle of beer. But then, if you prefer to swing with magnificent red wine notes and funky farmhouse flavors dancing in the undercurrents of a crisp, remarkable brew, then Interlude has that thing. C’est le gout, toujours! It’s the taste that is always an adventure.

Draft at Kickbacks. A cloudy dark orange pour with a thin fizzy white head. Scent is citrus and malty. Taste is citrus, malts and wood with a nice dry bitter finish.

75cl traded bottle from 2007. Nice pop and carbonation on opening...had to be quick to the glass. Pours a slightly murky orange with light sediment and a small white head. BIG sour smell of Brett that makes your mouth water. The sourness fades a little in the flavor and brings in some sweeter notes. There is a lot going on here,,,in a good way. Yes I also picked up some of the notes from the red wine too in the finish. Tasty.

This beer is awfully sweet for a sour. Strawberries jump out at me in the aroma and on the palate. It’s definitely tart, but not LBB tart. The wine aging is money for Victor, but I’m not sure it works that well here. Had this in a trio of LBB, Interlude, & Vrienden. This was my least favorite.

Year 2 (2009 Vintage): Big! Fast! Carbonation! Very glowing, bright yellowish-orange color with a very thin/sparse bubbly white head. An almost sour-like aroma... not that much oak in the nose, mostly sour like a Belgian-style sour ale with a little grain and sweetness present. It really gets up in your nostrils... very, very good! I could whiff this all day long and be happy as a clam. It has a very yeasty-sour mouth feel. You can tell there’s alot of alcohol here. An interesting, really unique mouth feel. What an amazing palate! The oak barrel is very light, no doubt subsided a little after a couple of years (this is probably a good thing). Really good, but really heavy. The yeast hits the stomach pretty hard, so be prepared. Although strong in the yeast department, I would almost say this is actually a little thin and easy to drink.... which is great, because I love the idea of a Belgian but I don’t like how they can weigh down your stomach at times. Light and easy to drink with a strong alcohol presence.
