3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured into a wine glass a burnt orange that leaves a white lace on top of the glass. There is a slight cascade in the body from carbonation. The smell is horse blanket, very vinos, with some fruit essence. The taste is sweet a slight hop citrus profile but dominated by a wine (tannin) quality. Finishing fruity, with a grape, sweet fruit balance. I paired this beer with a grilled steak and artichokes. The savory flavors in the steak really went well with the fruit, tannin, qualities in the beer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(750ml bottle) Courtesy of the brewery and Caitlin. Many thanks! Pours a frothy, white, quick-dissipating head and a very clearbrownish-amber body. Regular carbonation bubbles of large size. Nose of a framboise gueuze, cherry notes and red wine acidic. Flavours are wild and all over - wild yeastiness, Belgian lambic, raisins, sour green grapes, vinegar and a dry, dry finish. Mild alcoholic burn at the end to conclude this interlude. Very, very interesting... and very, very tasty.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Peppery brett character over green apples, peaches, vanilla, oranges and spring flowers in the nose. Lightly hazy orange-copper coloured body is topped by a shy white head that recedes rapidly to a ring with scant lacing. Juicy citrus character is sweet up front before being joined by strong vanilla and leafy notes leading throught to a tart finish. Musky, peppery brett character is notable especially in the aftertaste along with lingering grainy malt notes. Occasional hints of alcoholic fortitude along the way. Very dry medium body with somewhat low carbonation and fair alcohol warming. A bit sticky. Snifter. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Julio’s Liquors, MA, Feb-06).

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Just reading my notes and remembering the beer makes me happy. Slightly hazy orange gold pour. Nice citrus and sweet malt aroma, with a good amount of other light fruits and some yeast. Similar flavors with some vinous tart notes and some light funky earthy yeasty notes that weren’t there in the aroma. Tart dry finish, a tad acidic. This was a very good beer.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Poured into my De Rocs glass from cork finished bottle. Musky, horse blanket of a nose. Some candied malt quickly overshadowed by red fruit and vanilla. The vinous character proceeds with champagne-like carbonation and a smooth malty finish that jumps up at the end with earthy hops and sourness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Medium sized tan head, fizzy, drops out quickly but does leave behind a fair amount of lace clinging on for dear life. Hazy orange brew with a sweet glow. Nose is citrusy, light peaches, wood, lightly vinous with a grainy maltiness. Body is medium, carbonation is prickly with a creamy follow up. Fruity flavors of peaches, hint of apple and melon, grape, esque. Lightly tart, faint brett, lightly musty and woody notes rounding it out. Dry, fruity finish. Kool!

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Incredible. Served in a tulip Duvel goblet. The brett pushes this beer into an excellent state - the evolution with the oak accent is perfect. Has grape-like vinuous sweet notes with a black pepper edge behind them. Complex, and well worth the $20.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Super Saver, Somerville, NJ. Lovely bottle with hang tag. As I uncork this one, the pressure is so intense that the cork flies at about 100 mph after a ear-ringing pop, hitting the ceiling, then the floor, then the door. I did my best Fred Eckhardt impression and "listened" to this beer, and as the head dissipated, the beer made a sound not unlike the sound a woman’s nether region makes when she gets nude and turned on and then repeatedly closes and opens her legs. Lovely, indeed. The pour was impressive, a hazy coppery color with some ruby hints, showing a 1-finger off-white head. The aroma is intense, and starts with a big cherry/berry blast to the olfactory cells, followed by a nice oaky bourbony funky burst, and some lambicy cobwebby malts, cabernet, and a large dose of that Cantillon smell. The flavor is fruity, on the citric funky side, with a solid mid-palate oaky bourbon element, and also some caberney hints. This one, as it warms, assumes multiple taste qualities, at one time or another resembling a lambic, a cabernet, and finishing as an oaky bourbony creation resembling Maker’s Mark as it warms to ambient temperature. The only comparable beers I can think of would be Stewart’s Decathlon and Cherry Bourbathon. This one is unique, delicious, and worth the 17 bucks I paid for it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to listen to something else besides beer...

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at ZBF. I guess "brought" by Rob Tod, IIRC. But presented by Lorenzo from BBB. This was the only American beer of the 8 or so brought that I really wanted to try. Came out a hazed gold. The aroma was the first thing I noticed. It came across surprisingly sour and fruity. I remarked that it was almost "lambic-ish" at one point. Some woody notes and wine coming through as well. Taste is also tart and fruity with light wood notes, yeast, and soft flowery notes. Body is medium and has a mild carbonation feel. There’s some dryness in spots and a lingering tartness. Finishes much the same - tart fruits, flowers, yeast notes, light wood, white wine and a bit of leather. I need a full bottle of this!
