Commercial Description:
Interlude- somewhere between the leap and the landing. It’s a jazz solo, the riffing, the unexpected improvisation. Rooted in a Belgian theme, Interlude soars from a second fermentation with our own Brettanomyces yeast. Then takes five in French oak wine barrels that once cellared fine Merlots and Sirahs. And then bottle conditioning. In all, an outrageous effort to make a bottle of beer. But then, if you prefer to swing with magnificent red wine notes and funky farmhouse flavors dancing in the undercurrents of a crisp, remarkable brew, then Interlude has that thing. C’est le gout, toujours! It’s the taste that is always an adventure.

Bottle, Olfestival. Pours a lovely hazy golden color, with a medium white head. Aroma is quite tart, bit hoppy, fruity, cask wood, cheesy. Slight sour taste, bit citrus, cheese. Something in between a gueuze and a saison. Bit dry palate. Great stuff.

Sampled at the Odds and Ends Tasting II on 10/19/07: Deep amber color with a medium thick beige head that burns off pretty quickly. Rings of lace. Aroma of yeast and sour fruit plus some spice. Medium body with a vinous and oaky character. Yeast and fruit flavors over a decent malt base. The finish is is spicy (anise) and yeasty with a fruit aftertaste. Allagash typically does a good job with their offerings and this is no exception.

2005 bottle courtesy of TurdFerguson and Beeryum: Pours a clear golden bronze with a nicely-lacing thin white head. Aroma of cheesy funk with a nice caramel malty character and some Belgian yeast. Starts semi-sweet, turning more dry, earthy and slightly floral with some good mild barnyard complexity. Finishes smooth and tart with nice lingering dry cheesiness that hides the alcohol very well.

Orange gold, hazy, tan/white head, really good lacing. Aroma is citrus, sweet malty, little bit herbal weirdness, yeasty. Nicely carbonated and smooth. Sweet taste with sour edges and finish was very dry. Shared with the ATL crew in 4/06 - thanks!

thanks Vyvvy for this sample. pours hazy orange with a small fizzy white head. nose is awesome-cinnamon, brett, brown sugar, lightly aged belgian malt and twangy yeast here. flavors definately show the fruityness of the brett yeast mixed wit hthe shirahs cask. the finish is lightly metallic which is my only gripe about this beer. lots of grapes on the finish (red). pretty good but not the beer i was thinking it would be.

750 ml bottle, corked and caged: Cloudy golden orange hue. Small off-whitish head dissipates and leaves a small ring around outside of glass. Great sour funked out nose, bacteria, wood, vinous, plum, currant, golden cherry, sour, thats very nice! Vinous again faintly in palate, wood, sweet, bready, dough, earthen, herbal, not finding the funk as much as in the nose. Pleasantly carbonated, and nice mouthfeel. Finishing cleanly, with dry white wine, alcohol character. Im digging this, its better with warmth I feel. This also has potential I think to be laid down for a bit. I love Rob Todd, cause hes doin it.

Okay, if you are a brettanomyces fan this is a very excellent beer, I some what and I found it very interesting. Mine is orange and pretty cloudy. It had a moderate white head when it was pour, but that is a distance memory now. Tart fruity aroma, grapes are apparent as is the barn yard leathery flavors found in many Brett beers. Well carbonated, bubbly. Dry finish almost like a dry champange. Save a bottle or two of this one, I think its going to be interesting.

Hazy blonde gold with a thin white head. Pleasant funky farmyard aroma, lactic acid, fruity apple notes. In mout, like a sweet white wine, with honey notes, lactic acid, citrus, lemon. Smooth mouthfeel, really enticing. Excellent! At EBF 2006.
