Oddly enough, I rate this beer at a 4 even though I rate the aroma, appearance, taste and palete lower (mid-scale). You have to understand something about this beer BEFORE you drink it. If you don’t you will lose all respect for what the brewer was trying to accomplish. First, let me say that you will be overwhelmed by a fierce acidity in bitterness, tartness and absolute vinegar essences. DO NOT LET THAT THROW YOU. I was privy to a tasting with a rep from the brewery who prepared us for the experience and I can say that without that, I would have pitched it in the sink claiming it to be rancid. However, much like a good balsamic vinegar, this beer does have characteristics of its own to be appreciated. Yes, I said vinegar, and a little salty but once past that, you do taste the berry and raisin and malt as well as the contributions the yeast add. Do try this but remember what I said earlier.

375 mL bottle. Red body. Smells intensely acidic. Raspberry. Vinegar. And some chemical aromas like plastic and acetone. Tastes of a pretty pleasant raspberry for one brief moment. Then it turns acetic and vinegary. And then it turns chemical. Really sour. Very difficult to drink. At least the fleeting moment of raspberry is decent.

Level 42 Tasting. Thanks to Mr Bois. Hazy amber beer, untidy pale cream colour head. Palate is light and finely crisp. Acid! Glue and acetone. Burning lemon acid lingers on after an unpleasant swallow. God awful!

Scopey (11338) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 16, 2016
Bottle shared at level 42. It pours amber - orange with a tiny off-white head. The nose is big, punchy, juicy, tangy raspberry, jammy, Victoria sponge, mild acetone, Bakewell tart and candy. The taste is tart, big tangy action, bracing acidity, tart raspberry, lemon peel, sherbet and earth with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. A bit acidic if truth be told. Juicy anyhow, but a touch harsh.

Bottle split at the level 42 tasting, thanks to Bro - Pye, 16/02/16. Hazed orange amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is funky red berry, apricot preserve ... after a good few months left open in the cupboard, lemon curd, wood must. Taste comprises red berry balsams, funk, straw, yeast esters, brett pangs, apricot jam. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with a big acidic bite. Decent sour if a little harsh in places.
