Oddly enough, I rate this beer at a 4 even though I rate the aroma, appearance, taste and palete lower (mid-scale). You have to understand something about this beer BEFORE you drink it. If you don’t you will lose all respect for what the brewer was trying to accomplish. First, let me say that you will be overwhelmed by a fierce acidity in bitterness, tartness and absolute vinegar essences. DO NOT LET THAT THROW YOU. I was privy to a tasting with a rep from the brewery who prepared us for the experience and I can say that without that, I would have pitched it in the sink claiming it to be rancid. However, much like a good balsamic vinegar, this beer does have characteristics of its own to be appreciated. Yes, I said vinegar, and a little salty but once past that, you do taste the berry and raisin and malt as well as the contributions the yeast add. Do try this but remember what I said earlier.

Bottle. Pours out a reddish-pink color with a small light pink head. Aroma is of mouth watering tart/sweet raspberries, funky yeast, some light lemon zest, and a basement funky note. Taste is complex, sweet/tart raspberries, funky yeast, some light lemon, barnyard funk, basement, light moth balls, light barrel. Really nicely done with a great balance between sweet and tart.

375ml bottle pours a deep orange with some sudsy, white head. Nos has tons of cherries and raspberries, smells like New Glarus Belgian Red with extra acid. Flavor follows, tart berry, raspberry, cherry, apple cider vinegar. Full bodied, tart finish. Excellent.

Bottle - 375mL corked and caged. Hazy, rusted orange-amber pour with a medium, dense, bubbly blushing head. Aroma is tart berries, wet wood, funky yeast earthy notes and sour yogurt. Taste is brutally sour! Lots of unripe berries, tart fruit, lemon juice, wet wood, leather, damp earth, sour yogurt and grains in the background. Body is light-medium with a strong, prickly carbonation, abrasive tartness on the palate and a dry finish. Ends with more sour fruit, sour yogurt, funky yeast, grains, damp wood and light earthy notes. You need sour? Come drink this!
