churchill00 (154), Austin, Texas, USA May 25, 2007 Picked it up on a whim as Whole Foods, without knowing what the rating is. I sense allot of acidity, and it obscures the flavor. Not really all that familiar with scotch ales, but this isn’t bad. A bit sweet; curiously complex. Overall, it’s ok. faroeviking (6016), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands May 23, 2007 Bottle. Amber-brown. Sweet malty and fruitish aroma. Malty and caramellic hoppy flavour with alcohol. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark May 21, 2007 Bottle. High fluffy but lasting off-white head. Hazy dark orange body. Sweet aroma of pear apple peach and amazingly enogh no alcohol. Dry and hoppy flavor smooth and well balanced with low carbonation and a long dry and bitter aftertaste. Alcohol also well hidden in the flavor. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA May 20, 2007 Huge thanks to boboski for sharing this one with all of us at the Orlando gathering.
Bottle dated May 2006, cases bottled 690. Pours a cloudy golden body with a bubbly, sudsy white head. Aromas of raisins, liquor, spices, toasted grains. The wood doesn’t come through very well in the nose, but dominates the flavor, along with some sweet malt and vanilla. Finish is medium lenght, with medium astringency. Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 20, 2007 (Bottle 75 cl) Hazy, amber golden with a creamy, beige head. Vinous, alcoholic nose. Medium body with some caramel, fruity notes and then an almost roaring alcohol. Not particularly balanced. Once again Allagash fails to impress me. 120507 allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA May 19, 2007 Bottled, December 2006 vintage. Poured copper, with a foamy, ivory-colored head. The nose was sour with hints of coriander. The flavor was very complex, with notes of honey, coriander, wood, and lemon peel. The finish was astringent and hoppy. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2007 25 oz bottle, Stateline Liquors. Pours a clear dark copper to amber colored body under a fizzy beige head that retained forever due to vigerous visible carbonation. The aroma is fruity maltiness with lots of oak, alcohol, yeast influence, and caramel. The flavor is as much about the barrel as the beer itself. Very well attenuated, the malt is much less sweet than I expected, yielding to the heavy oak tannins. Finishes with a pleasant yeasty funkiness and minimal alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and thinner than I expected, but that’s a good thing to me. Lots of fizzy pinpoint efforvescent carbonation really keeps you engaged. This was surprisingly good. Easily the most drinkabe of all the small batch Allagash that I’ve had. The alcohol was amazingly well hidden and it didn’t come across as too young at all. It does perplex me that this is a Scotch Ale though. joergen (8429), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 19, 2007 Bottle.
