3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 ChainGangGuy (3685) - Canton, Georgia, USA - JUN 9, 2007
Appearance: Pours a murky brown body with a dense, fizzy off-white head.
Smell: Sweetish, malty aroma of brown sugar, cookies, orange oil, banana, with a little mustiness to it and a dash of maple syrup.
Taste: Extremely complex, multi-faceted flavor here, with a plethora of subtle notes and hints at play - vanilla Tootsie Rolls, almonds, orange, dried cherries. Initially malty with a candy sweetness. A dusty quality, as well as a spice-laden finish steers the taste away from being cloying. No real hop presence to speak of. A small amount of alcohol shines through and provides a nice warming sensation.
Mouthfeel: Medium-body enhanced by a smooth, creamy palate and a lively carbonation.
Drinkability: A real marathon for the mouth and the wallet!
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Maria (7805) - Thisted, DENMARK - JUN 7, 2007
Københavnske Øldage 07. Red-golden and the aroma has primarily notes of bourbon, oak and sweetness. The flavour also has the sweetness, the bourbon and oak as the dominating features, but I also pick spices and a light, citrussy bitterness. It’s a well balanced beer - but a bit too much of everything for me... 2123

3.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 brigg (362) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - JUN 4, 2007
(750 ml bottle) A hazy brown beer with orange tones and a thin tan head. The aroma is wonderful and complex - citrus, tropical fruit (pineapple, mango), spice, and alcohol. The flavor is spicy, with some fruit, and noticeable alcohol. It has a biting finish and aftertaste, and leaves the tongue tingling. The flavor does not live up to the promise of the aroma; the alcohol seems to be the most noticeable flavor.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 JMFG (1582) - Florida, USA - JUN 4, 2007
May 2006 bottle. Clear amber with a short foamy white head. Sweet yeasty smell, some tannic oak (not much), fruit. Medium-bodied. General Belgian fruity yeast taste with some oak notes. Overall not very distinct. It strikes me as more of a simple Belgian Strong. To judge it by the standards of Scotch Ales, this is very mediocre. On its own merits, it’s a good Belgian-style brew. I have a December 2006, and will see if the oak is more up front.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 pilsnerrogge (2107) - Finspång, SWEDEN - JUN 3, 2007
[Corked 75 cl bottle] Brown colour with a slight haze. Rich head. Somewhat spicy aroma with notes of honey and berries. Flavour is toffee and orange peels. The alcohol and the oak aging gives it a somewhat harsh finish. Since this is an "expensive-beer-in-a-fancy-bottle" I must admit that I’m a little bit disappointed; I expected something more. Will probably improve with age.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jrob21 (1753) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 29, 2007
This has a muted cola taste, one of the things I love in scotch ales. The oak aging adds a bit of character. Sweetness is there. Alcohol is not. Pours an opaque amber/brown color with minimal head. Big carbonation. Aroma is caramel and cola. Full bodied, long finish with a slight alcohol and bitter back end. Good beer but I really love plain ol scotch ales minus the oak aging.
