This poured an amber apperance with a moderate white head. The aroma contains some oak, dark fruit like raisins, and spices. The flavor is rather sweet and malty with some caramel, raisins, molasses, and a tad bit of the alcohol showing. Overall a nice beer.

Pours deep copper with a thin off-white head. Big malt notes compliment dark afruit. Nice long finish. The alcohol is slightly forward, but this is still an excellent beer.

(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, oak and some dark fruits. Sweet malty flavor with caramel and some fruitiness. Medium-bodied. Quite good.

Draught @ GLB with Larry and M 8/5/08. Malts, wood, warm alcohol, rasins, and dark fruit. Belgian yeast flavour aspects are evident. An interesting and complex beer. Intense.

Bomber. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a quickly-dissipating off-white head. Aroma is heavy malt with wood/oak notes and dark fruit detectable as well. Aroma is heavy malt up front, with yeast and earthy notes on the front, dissolving into a woody finish and a slight, slight alcohol burn on the end. It didn’t have the strong grain characteristics I’ve come to expect in Scotch ales, but it was still a very nice experience.

Clear garnet color with a fleeting head. spicy dark roasted malt aroma with dark raisons. Frothy mouthfeel. Spicy, yeasty flavors with earthy roasted malts. Barely a hint of the oak barrel aging. Seems more Belgian style than Scotch.

Bottled August 2006. Pours amber with a small white head. Aroma is sweet with notes of wood, caramel, and raison. Flavor is nice. It finishes with oak and smokiness. Upfront is sweet caramel, banana possibly,(?) and raison. Smooth, not overly sweet and very earthy tones in the finish make this a nice surpise. Not up there with Alesmith but close.

Sampled via 750 ml bottle at BDR’s summer picnic and shared by BDR. Pours a semi-clear dark reddish amber brew with an average off-white head that slowly dissipates to a fine film and some spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, some apricots, a touch of yeast, apples and earthy herbs. Taste is spritzy, medium bodied, with flavors of roasted dark caramel malt, some raisin, vanilla and a touch of oak. Finish is semi-sweet, with some light yeast, apricot and a touch of coconut. The finish is where the oak barrel aging flavor comes through.
