| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 15, 2006 750 ml bottle shared with several Quebecois and one other drunk American at tiggmtl’s going away party in Montreal, from a New Belgium glass. Thick yeasty chestnut with a bit of lasting head, faint lacing....smoky, malty whisky-vanilla and caramel nose, touches of cherries and almonds, about what I would expect but quite pleasant regardless....body fairly light and fluffy for the style, but it works with the grapy, peaty-smoky character that emerges at the finish after the smooth creme brulee of the early part of the palate....certainly a Scotch Ale, but the Belgian yeast and faint tartness throughout imparts some nice original notes; very nice and I look forward to imbibing a whole one myself soon. vyvvy (2069), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 19, 2007 Pours bronze with a thick dense beige head that had nice retention. The aroma has lots of oak, tight caramel malt, light sweetness, dry vanilla, smooth spices and toasted / roasted aspects. Medium body with a smooth syrupy feel with a decent semi-sharp carbonation. The taste has a beautiful blend of scotch ale and oak that is very even. The oak dries out a lot of the cloying effect of many scotch ales while still displaying a strong malt presence. There is some light spiciness as well. The finish is rich, yet somewhat dry, with hefty toffee malt. This hides the 10% alcohol very well. As it warms the spices seem along the allspice / cinnamon line and the Belgium yeast starts coming out. A very good and complex brew. DaSilky1 (2033), San Diego, California, USA

Aroma of straw, caramel, & banana. Yeasty flavors of banana and cream with a silky, creamy mouthfeel. End is long with continuous notes of cream. madsberg (5152), Søborg, Denmark

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 1, 2006 The body of this beer is a dark orange/red heavy amber and it holds a diminishing thumb thick white head that is quite creamy and made up of very small bubbles.

Aroma, lightly yeasty, pineapple, bourbon, oak and sweet fruity malt. Very nice aroma with a nice range of distinct smells.

Fore is very oak laded. Has a woody spiciness to it in fact. The bourbon is fainter here, but some of that wood/bourbon mix that, to me, approximates pineapple is present here. Some earthy malt makes it feel a tad dusty, but in more of a barnyard funk way. It’s very soft on the tongue. More fruity notes pop as it warms up more. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 19, 2007 Pours a dark amber with a thick, well retained light tan head. Pretty foamy. Rich malts and caramel dominate the aromas. Some yeasts as well. Taste has a nice malty bitterness to it. Caramel and vanilla are also very much present, especially in the finish. The bourbon is more controlled in this beer, than in the other barrel aged beers they do. The alcohol is still very hot, but the bourbon is more subtle in this beer. Still very nice. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 7, 2006 Bottle sampled with Beerded_one. Pours deep bronze\brown with a decent off-white head. Aroma of fermented fruit, citrus, vanilla, and bourbon. Flavor is smooth, bourbon, fruit, citrus, lively carbonation, vanilla. Good body excellent brew, more like a belgian style brew, rather than a scoth ale, but ehh who cares when it is this good.
