Bottle purchased at Town and Country in West Springfield, MA. Shared with the crew at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown 06. 4-5 ounce sample. Aroma is funky, barnyardy, with some slightly sweet, roasty, vinous notes as well. Garnet-mahogany body that is mildly hazy with a nice off-white head and nice lacing as well. Funky, yeasty start with some sweet peaty maltiness in the middle. I also detect some butterscotchy notes as well in the finish. A little mustiness as well. Pretty tasty, but I am not sure if I would buy it again at that price.

Bottled at RBESG. Cloudy amber. Perfumy oaky nose. Fruity and estery with medium body. Woody and full flavoured with some caramel and floral strawberries. Intense. An American version of a Belgian version of a Scottish beer...

Jacksonville, Fl. - Total Wine - 750 ml bottle. Dark copper pour, white silky head - leaves a nice coat of lacing. Aroma is gentle, not very persuasive. Faint nuttiness, some smoky notes. Smooth flavor. Pick up some of those same roasted notes, a hint of cherries, some caramel and toffee to round it out. Flavor improves as it warms. High ABV is not noticed at all. Mouthfeel is thick and luxuriant and coats the mouth. Good belly warmer but just missing that little but of oomph I usually get from Allagash.

Bottle... Hazy, copper ale with a small, fizzy, off-white head. Terrific retention. Complex nose... woodsy, fruity, chocolatey, spicy and slightly Flemish. Notes of port, mandarin orange, banana and malt whiskey. Possibly a Belgian yeast strain. The malty, earthy flavor is moderately bitter from the booze, charred wood and hops. Full-bodied and creamy with fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, bitter finish.

Large, milky brown head of medium sized bubbles. Head is a little flittzy for a scotch ale. I expected a nice thick dense head that retains itself for a long time. Little fruity aroma. Some malts but not enough. I read the description now and see that this is modeled after a "belgian" scotch ale. Has more of the yeasty and fruity aroma of a belgian strong than a scotch ale. No smoke, no peat, no thick chewey malts. Slightly vinuous with just a hint of bourbon. Color is a dark amber. The flavor is more in line with the style. Pretty malty and a little sweet. Good alcohol warming. Little fruit again and a touch of tartness from the oak. Needs more earthy and peat notes. Only a slight bourbon overtone again. Body is a little thin but packs alot of flavor. Finish is pretty hot actually and kind of short lived. A good scotch ale should have an ending that hangs around for a while. Regardless this is still a pretty damn tasty brew but I am a little dissapointed. It may need to lay down for a while longer though.

Sampled at Arg0’s Pre-RBSG Tasting at his pad: Amber gold, light head and light lacing. Nose of bright citrusy hops, tart bacteria and yeast. The flavor is balanced, but more tart and citrusy with sweet malts and a rich funky finish. Nice, a bit lost in the moment. Sorry.

Bottled. Hazy amber colour with off-white head. Cream and toffee in aroma, along with yeast. Lots of yeast. Pretty dry and bitter for o Scotch Ale, with bitter yeast backbone flavourwise. Big on low alpha hops I believe,

75 cl bottle. Somewhat cloudy amber color, nice beige head. Malty cork aroma, vanilla notes and some nuts. Malty, yeasty flavor, spicy, woody and with nutty notes.
