Skyview (2657), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Jul 23, 2008 Sampled via 750 ml bottle at BDR’s summer picnic and shared by BDR. Pours a semi-clear dark reddish amber brew with an average off-white head that slowly dissipates to a fine film and some spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, some apricots, a touch of yeast, apples and earthy herbs. Taste is spritzy, medium bodied, with flavors of roasted dark caramel malt, some raisin, vanilla and a touch of oak. Finish is semi-sweet, with some light yeast, apricot and a touch of coconut. The finish is where the oak barrel aging flavor comes through. Magic_dave6 (3536), London, England Jul 22, 2008 Bottle at the RBESG08 Grand tasting. Alround rating: Nutty, woody, yeasty, oxidation, dusty, moldy. Not a hitter for me. bluevegie (1710), Perth, Australia Jul 22, 2008 Tried a fairly good sample at the june homebrew meeting courtesy of the ex prez. Amber body with off white head. Notice the oak in the aroma also the alcohol. Taste was a little as expected, a scotch ale is not my favourite style and bourbon certainly doesn’t turn me on, still I thought it was ok, dark fruits some spice and wasn’t looking for too much else WeeHeavySD (1564), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jul 21, 2008 May 2006 Vintage Bottle, purchased at the Brewery in August 06, I believe this is the first bottling. Shared with my girlfriend Cyn. Pours orange with a 1finger tan head. Nose is very sweet, with some clear cut belgian styled yeast. Taste is sweet and malty with some oak and bourbon. It seems mellowed but there is a boozy character here as well. The cork had a very boozy quality to it also. Pretty nice beer overall given its age. TBone (4841), Pori, Finland Jul 20, 2008 Bottled@RBESG 2008 Grand Tasting
Clear amber color, small white head. Oaky with some vanilla in the nose. Liquerish, malty with some vanilla flavors in wellbalanced package. Some oxidation and fizzyness in the finish.
