COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late this year we plan to release a second beer in the Barrel Aged series... a dark, 10% wheat beer. We have been aging a portion of the beer in New American Medium Toast Oak, and a portion in Stainless steel. We will then blend the beers to taste, and bottle condition. The beer will have spent over 6 months aging in the oak and steel at the brewery!

Pretty good brew. Poured with a small to medium light tan head that mostly settles out and a bit of lace. Color is a lovely, clear mahoganey. Aroma is really nice with some slightly smokey, roasty malt, burnt wood, dark ripe fruit and a bit of toffee. Flavor is like that, but lots of the smoke disappears leaving only a bare hint; sweetness comes out more but all is well balanced. Body is just right, mouth filling and cut well by carboantion. Finish is like flavor, fairly long and with an oakey lingering sweetness along with some alcohol. Again a tad sweet for me to drink more than this botte. But it is a pretty pow beer.

Bottle shared by levifunk - Dark and murky brown with a light brown head. Leather and tobacco on the nose, with lots of dark malt. Lots of lightly smoked malt with vinous notes, tobacco, dark fruit--lots going on here. Smooth in the mouth and lightly carbonated, this feels pretty good in the mouth. Really nice.

Pours reddish brown with white head. Nose is alcohol, Belgian yeast and fermenting dark fruits. Taste is aged cherry, oak, little booze and Belgian yeasts.

Bottle Pours out a dark brown with some red highlights topped with a sandy head. Aroma was of sweet malts, caramel, wood, and some bread. Taste was much as the aroma with a good about of the barrel showing threw. Plenty of the sweetness and spice to help push the wood back.

On tap at Downtown Johnny Browns into tulip. Pours a dark brown almost black with small tan head. Aroma of toasted malts and lots of wood character. Mouthfeel is thick with moderate carbonation. Taste is very similar in aroma, very roasty flavors and hints of dark fruits and wood. Excellent brew.

Appearance: Pours a cola brown with a thin ring of head.

Aroma: Super faint banana, really not much nose on this pour.

Taste: Sweet, spicy roasty wheat, banana, slight earthy wood note finishing with some hop spice.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied modest carbonation.

Overall: The beer is balanced, but really underwhelming for such a fancy expensive beer. There are plenty of other Allagash beers I would pluck off the shelf before this one.

UPDATED: FEB 28, 2011 Wow, this blew me away! Brown with tan head- filtered (-1 on appearance). Aroma and flavor reveal a nice smokiness probably from the aging process. This couples with a beautiful combination of toast, roast, and bread crust, as well as darker fruit flavors (dates, raisins). Incredibly tasty. Complex and intense yet drinkable to the highest degree!
