COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late this year we plan to release a second beer in the Barrel Aged series... a dark, 10% wheat beer. We have been aging a portion of the beer in New American Medium Toast Oak, and a portion in Stainless steel. We will then blend the beers to taste, and bottle condition. The beer will have spent over 6 months aging in the oak and steel at the brewery!

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2008 Chestnut brown, slight haze. Thin caramel head. Oaky, toasty and chewy, with rich dark fruit notes. There’s a slightly smokey, chocolate note in there. Soft, smokey, chocolatey body with some woody dryness and alcoholic firmness. Complex, distinctive.

(750ml, bottled October 2006) Pours a dark brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma of cookies, caramel, chocolate, toffee, toasted nuts, brown sugar, and oak. Flavor of raisins, rum, toffee, apple, oak, and toasted malt with a dry finish.

(750ml, bottled 2/05) Big beige head atop a clear, dark red-brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, brown sugar, raisin, bourbon, vinous, some vanilla, light wood, faint peat. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, light plum. Surprisingly mild alcohol warming in the finish. Medium-full body that is much thinner than the bourbon its flavor suggests. Still, the aroma would have you believe a greater range of flavors await you than the beer actually delivers.

750ml bottle from 2/05-pours a tan head with dark amber color. Aroma is oaky and bourbon (I know these are virgin barrels). Taste follows, a big beer which isnít my taste even though Iíve enjoyed much of the Allagash line up.

Brown with a small off-white head. Dark dried fruit and malt in the nose. Sweet and malty flavour with toffee notes. Alcohol noticed. Too boring for a 10% beer.

Corked and caged. January 2008 bottle from Marcus (Thanks once more). Vinous, dark fruit and dark malt aromas. Near opaque brown color with garnet glints. Tan head that went up and stayed for awhile. Medium bodied with creamy/fizzy carbonation. All kinds of flavor. Coffee, maybe dark plum fruit, molasses?, chocolate, some heat, some spice. Takes awhile, but some oak comes forth. Very good in the mouth. Reminds me a bit of Glazen Toren Canaster, in a very stepped-down way - certainly no light fruits here. Maybe it resembles cola a trifle? Seems pretty complicated. A great pleasure to drink.

Draft @ Oakquinox 2013. Mahogany pour with an off-white head. Some bread and toffee malt aroma. Some dark fruit, spice, and wood. Not terribly sweet and a bit herbal. The flavor is very toasty and heavy on the oak. Mild to moderate malt sweetness of toffee and toasted bread. Spice and herb flavors, yeast, dark fruit, and a hint of smoke.

Bottle from Riverís Bend. Poured reddish/brown color with an average light brown fizzy head that lasted with good lacing. Complex dark fruit, woody, caramel and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Full complex sweet bourbon flavor with solid bittersweet finish and a small bite of alcohol. Good standout brew.
