(750ml, bottled 2/05) Big beige head atop a clear, dark red-brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, brown sugar, raisin, bourbon, vinous, some vanilla, light wood, faint peat. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, light plum. Surprisingly mild alcohol warming in the finish. Medium-full body that is much thinner than the bourbon its flavor suggests. Still, the aroma would have you believe a greater range of flavors await you than the beer actually delivers.

750ml bottle from 2/05-pours a tan head with dark amber color. Aroma is oaky and bourbon (I know these are virgin barrels). Taste follows, a big beer which isn’t my taste even though I’ve enjoyed much of the Allagash line up.

20th June 2008. Smooth but dry. Wood flavours dominate but also seems to impart extra dryness. Very drinkable but not quite joined up enough to be great.

Dark nut brown color, small beige head. Licorice and tar in the nose as well as dark malts. Flavor has sweet caramel, some wood, licorice, vanilla and calvados. Liquerish palate. Some roasted notes in the aftertaste with sweetness.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Christian (9845) - Odense, DENMARK - NOV 16, 2009
Brown with a small off-white head. Dark dried fruit and malt in the nose. Sweet and malty flavour with toffee notes. Alcohol noticed. Too boring for a 10% beer.

Fruity slight roast aroma. Dark coloured very strong in alcohol and fruity with a little bitterness in a crisp and warming malt finish.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bhensonb (9093) - Woodland, California, USA - MAR 26, 2008
Corked and caged. January 2008 bottle from Marcus (Thanks once more). Vinous, dark fruit and dark malt aromas. Near opaque brown color with garnet glints. Tan head that went up and stayed for awhile. Medium bodied with creamy/fizzy carbonation. All kinds of flavor. Coffee, maybe dark plum fruit, molasses?, chocolate, some heat, some spice. Takes awhile, but some oak comes forth. Very good in the mouth. Reminds me a bit of Glazen Toren Canaster, in a very stepped-down way - certainly no light fruits here. Maybe it resembles cola a trifle? Seems pretty complicated. A great pleasure to drink.

Bottled feb 2005, bottle from Dickinsonbeer, thanks! Dark brown color. Porto, sherry notes, raisin and dsut in the aroma. Oak and vanilla. Oaky flavor with vanilla and raisin, milk chocolate, porto notes, hazelnuts and some warming alcohol. Amazing omplexity. Toffee notes in the long aftertaste. Characterful and lovely brew.

Bottled: Burrgundy coloured. Unclear. Light brown head. Alcohol, caramel and sweetness in the nose. Some wood notes as well. Flavour is medical and dominated by alcohol without beeing too much. Is quite balanced. Has sweetness and some spices. Full bodied and loads of action on the palate.
