COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late this year we plan to release a second beer in the Barrel Aged series... a dark, 10% wheat beer. We have been aging a portion of the beer in New American Medium Toast Oak, and a portion in Stainless steel. We will then blend the beers to taste, and bottle condition. The beer will have spent over 6 months aging in the oak and steel at the brewery!

Bottled July 2009, 10.4% ABV. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip. A: Pours a jet black with ruby red peeking out of the corners and a one finger light beige head. S: A bit of Belgian funk, dark fruits, and heavy oak on the finish. T: Big sweet malt with brown sugar in the beginning with nice vanilla, oak, and toffee to follow. M: Perfect level of carbonation, and lighter bodied than similar high ABV brews, with the wheat base as opposed to a traditional stout base. D: Wow, brilliant, this tastes like an imperial stout with Belgian funk in the nose but not enough to influence the taste all that much (unlike Belgian style imperial stouts like JP Dark Dawn). The wheat base helps this beer’s cause as it makes it lighter and easier to drink.

Bottle. Dark dark brown with ruby notes around the edges in the light. Subtle head that disappeared quickly, but left lacing on the glass. Aroma is malty and has a hint of hops. Maybe a little bit of coffee a la a baltic porter??? Flavor is very malty, but balanced with the oaky richness and some nice bitterness to end. Palate starts creamy and ends with a nice crispness.

Deep garnet brown color with a thin sand-tan head. Aroma is rich figs and oak, with a touch of dark brown sugar and molasses. The flavor has a nice foward oak, enriching a very creamy, rich chewy, dark fruit beer. Not a super thick syrupy beer, but vdery larg and in charge on the flavor. Mission figs, dates, and a touch of black strap molasses. Nice lingering oaky finish. As it warmed, it developed an anise like flavor. Bottle tasted on May 18 2008

I can proudly say that I was the only one at the post-Dark Lord gathering who did NOT find the bacon in this bottle. Poors dark brown. Almost looks like a brown ale or a porter. I definately get the caramel and oakiness that others have noted, but it reminded me much more of a maple syrup. Wood and bourbon quite present atop solid malt with some Belgian fruit and spiciness going on. Definately a Belgian with confidence issues trying to dress up like an American barleywine or imperial stout. But it works!

Dark fLat pour barley no head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel choc brown sugars hints of vanilla and a hint of bourban boozy nose. Almost a slight bitter choc in the flavor lots of the oaky bourban comes through And even some darkfruit lot more fizz at the front then expected. Very easy drinking and very yummy!

Spicy, zesty and complex. Intriguing, but watery and ultimately too hard to enjoy. On tap at the Flying Saucer in San Antonio.

750ml bottled on July 2009. Pours a dark brown with 1 finger head and some sticky lace. Smell is of malt and caramel. Taste is malt, caramel, dark fruit. Average carbonation and nice alcohol warmth at the end. Very much worth the price.

Typical Belgium, like a desert beer. Complex mouthfeel, gets close to a wine. Long and lasting aftertaste.

Bottled October 2006 Pours a deep burgundy with substantial tan head that dissipates slowly. Dark fruity malt and sweet molasses to the nose. Taste is spectacular. A bit of the alcohol comes through among a balanced and complex burst of flavor. Mouthfeel is smooth and moderately carbonated. Great drinkability, this is one to savor and analyze. One of the most enjoyable brews of this style I’ve tried recently.
