COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late this year we plan to release a second beer in the Barrel Aged series... a dark, 10% wheat beer. We have been aging a portion of the beer in New American Medium Toast Oak, and a portion in Stainless steel. We will then blend the beers to taste, and bottle condition. The beer will have spent over 6 months aging in the oak and steel at the brewery!

Pours a opaque brown color with a tan head. Has nice lacing. Has strong sweet taste at begining. Has hints of caramel, wood, and whiskey. Finishes sweet and full bodied. Thanks to DragonStout on his 600th.

January 2008 bottling, poured into a tulip. Pours dark, dark brown with hints of copper showing when held up to light. There is a small creamy tan head that recedes to a small collar and swirl in the middle. The aroma is sweet with dark chocolate, molasses and dark fruit - raisins, plums and even some grapes. There is also a noticeable dark roasted malt character and some wood and bourbon. The taste is spectacular and unbelievably complex. There is a base of roasted chocolate malts with molasses and dark fruits mixed in. The finish is chocolaty but with a definite bourbon and oak presence. The flavors just keep coming as it warms - figs, raisins, rum, tobacco, licorice, you name it. The mouthfeel is very, very smooth, full bodied with good carbonation. Dessert-like overall. I had this beer about a year ago and remembered it being good, but, wow, this is an excellent beer, probably my favorite from Allagash. It has so many things going on but they all seem to merge together perfectly. Superb beer.

Bottled July ’09. Poured into my Duvel tulip glass. A-Body is a nearly opaque dark brown-cola color. Pours with a 2-3 finger foamy off-white head that fades quickly to a thin collar. Leaves minimal lacing behind in the glass. Bubbles can be seen steadily rising to the top. S-Impressions of anise, cola, and root beer come through initially with a slight spicy yeast overtone. Phenols can be detected at a moderate strength. T-Much like the nose the overall impression this brew gives off initially is that of root beer, anise, and cola. A wet oak presence is minimal in the background. After a few sips a spicy belgian yeast comes through and blends well with the initial flavors. The finish is spicy and sweet with the slightest hints of molasses and oak coming through as well as a moderate alcohol warmth. P-Medium to high tingly carbonation and a light to medium weight body. Body is wet and yeasty but there is a slight phenolic consistency as well. O- This is a great beer overall. ABV still somewhat detectable but not out of check in any way, shape or form. I wish there was a bit more oak barrel presence as well. Overall I think this is a great brew and great example of BSDA and measures well against the greats of the style. Dark brown, almost black pour with a vivacious, lasting tight frothy tan head that leaves a nice dark coating of lacing in its wake. Aroma is dominated by the quindessential allagash yeast character, and all the yummy spices it tends to produce. Oak, currant, fig, clove, banana, and a citrusy wheat malt combine with the ever prevalent doughty yeast character to produce an excellent arangement of notes. Flavor is absoluely bursting- sweet succulent dark fruit- fig, grape, black currant, and molasses are met with a definitive woody toast note that subsides into an ever so slight hint of roast and a boozy vinousness. Palate is caressing, thick, and excellently effervescent.

A great compliment for the cigars we were having that night. The taste was very smooth and oaky, with a dried fruit quality. The aroma was big and robust with hints of dried fuit and a slight hint of oak. Not much more to say because I’m pretty wasted , but pick this one up now!!!!

Drank at a local gathering in GSO (on tap). Stong aroma, hints of red grapes, plums, bready malts, with a hint of oak. Rich dark black, almost a very dark purple color. Litlle to no head, and a sort of sparkling color. Tastes of plum, grapes, bready, a little chocolate...all with no taste of alcohol. A very good beer, tought to drin a lot of them at 10.4%, but regardless a goodie.

The oak flavor while not overbearing is what really make this beer special to me. Faint notes hit you on the nose and there is a bit of a woody back taste that really left me looking forward to the next sip. At this point it will have some age on it, but at 10% I think if will have held up just fine and will only grow smoother with age.

Bottle. Dark dark brown with ruby notes around the edges in the light. Subtle head that disappeared quickly, but left lacing on the glass. Aroma is malty and has a hint of hops. Maybe a little bit of coffee a la a baltic porter??? Flavor is very malty, but balanced with the oaky richness and some nice bitterness to end. Palate starts creamy and ends with a nice crispness.
