A nice Saison, a style I’m learning to just love more and more and something I need to brew soon. The honey in this beer is the star in my opinion. It doesn’t come through to much but what is there is really nice. Mix in the sweetness, grassiness, and spiciness and you have a really nice enjoyable brew.

Draft. Hazy amber body, medium beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, spicy, some orange, light bread, cantaloupe. Taste is medium sweet, bread, some spicy, light pepper. Light-medium body, light effervescence.

On tap @ StagsHead. Poured a light amber with a small white head and minimal lacing. Aroma is a little weak with hints of bready malt, grass, Belgian yeast, and lemon zest. Taste is similarly dominated by malt, slight yeast funk, pepper, and citrus zest. Nice carbonation and smooth finish.

Pours copper. Aroma is really lacking for me despite having a nice taste. Pretty smooth but nothing extraordinary to me. Solid but forgettable.

On tap at some Brooklyn bar whose name I forget. Aroma of wheat bread, yeast, grass, and blueberries. Flavor is similar: bready and yeasty with some fruit, grass, and caramel malt. Not very saison like. A bit confusing.

tastes like it’s description and it does a good job. The berries give a nice piney taste that i enjoy with some juicy flowery sweetness and the bitter point of the pinecone flavors. moderate light grainy mouthfeel served nice and cold. lemon grass wafts in and out. with some nice toasted white bread for a little balance. quite nice

In short: A strange floral, fruity and slightly spicy beer of some kind
How: Tap at Three Penny Taproom, Montpelier, VT
The look: Cloudy amber body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: Unusual nose showing unusual fruitiness and unusual floral notes. Strangely aromatic and I more intriguing than inviting. Taste is just as puzzling with tea, exotic fruits, flowers, red apples, dry wood, berries, soft candies, bread, white pepper, perfume notes. A medium amount of juicy fruity sweetness. Nothing rustic or well attenuated with this so called Saison. Basically I’m just listing a bunch of flavor elements because really I’m not sure what this beer is supposed to be or what it’s trying to be. Not bad per say, but not something I care about having again. I’ve got two confessions to make: I always blindly order any beer with the word ‘Saison’ in it, and I’ve never told anyone you said ‘Hi’.

Draft at Barcade JC 1st Anniversary party. Poured a darker shade than I was expecting with an amber body under an average sized foamy off white head. Aroma had a nice touch of funkiness about it along with citrus notes, grains, light pepper, spice and orange. Super full foamy carbonation on this one along with a medium body and an average duration on the aftertaste. Flavor of grains, light spice, pepper, citrus rind, lemon, and bread. Rather enjoyable but not amazing.

Draft at Jerry’s. Amber with big. flotsam, off-white head / Delicate nose of bread, malt, and spice / Light to medium body, smooth and a touch malty, soft carbonation, with great balance and moderately dry, bitter finish / Elegant flavors of bread, straw, lemongrass, juniper berries, honey, and grain spice / A lovely spring/summer ale.
