3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 kramer (3454) - Sunbury, USA - SEP 2, 2006
25 oz bottle. This was the biggest gusher that I’ve ever experienced. The cork sounded like a rifle blast and a geyser like eruption about two feet high ensued. Very big mess on the floor and half the bottle wasted. After I managed to grab my glass, it poured a slightly hazy orangish gold colored body under a minimal off-white head. Minimal visible carbonation, I guess it was lost in the eruption mostly. Flavor is fruity and yeasty with lots of Belgian spicing. Cloves and coriander most prominantly with a peppery yeastiness. The malt is quite bready and chewy. The alcohol made it’s presence known on the finish but it was pretty minimal for a 10% beer. Mouthfeel is wonderful though. Soft but lively carbonation on the tongue. Great rounded full bodied creamy texture. Overall, this would have been a really great experience were it not for wasting half of a fifteen dollar bottle on the floor.

750ml shared with shadowane and sideshowe.
Pours a bright golden orange color with a half finger white head that quickly fades. Not much in the way of lacing.
Complex aroma with a good balance of candy sugar, citrus fruit and zesty spice. Lots of orange and tangerine candy sweetness that’s countered by spicy hints of pepper and coriander.
Medium bodied with a decent amount of zesty spice and sweet citrus fruit. Still pleasantly carbonated with lots of zesty spice up front. Hints of pepper coriander followed by tangerine, orange and peaches and cream. There’s also a subtle bubblegum presence that falls off toward the finish. Abv excellently masked making this beer dangerously drinkable. This beer has held up surprisingly well.

4th July 2009 Hazy gold - amber beer. Softish dry palate. Subtly spiced malt with a distinct orange sherbet but also something else vegetal. Finishes dry soft and spicy with alcohol aniseed and warmth. Tasty and drinkable.

Pour out of bottle big thanks to Aaron for the pour! Hazy orange with white head, aroma has notes of butter, some caramel, toffee, hints of bready yeast. Taste is definitely buttery popcorn, some slight biscuit, grass, toffee, hints of vanilla, finishing fairly dry, but sweet. Decent for 7 years old.

Bottle @ Armin’s place, thanks to Satchboogie. Thanks Dany! Bready, lemon citrusy, somewhat spicy, Belgian yeasty, a bit toasty, somewhat oxidized aroma. Tangy, spicy, Belgian yeasty, thick straw, lemon/tangerine fruity, buttery, oxidized flavor. It’s not that bad and I’m sure it was excellent a few years back, but it’s going down now.

750mL c&c thanks to tastybeer. Gusher. Pours a glowing, light orange with a modest white head. No head. Nose is gold raisins, licorice, yeast phenols, intense orange mint. Taste is pretty doughy with sourdough bread and Biere de Garde maltiness moving to some light fruity tartness. Licorice is present, apricot, fuller bread and small vanilla. Mild soap. Nice understated balance. Richer, full bready palate.

Bottle (from the november 2005 RB-tasting at Dixens place - notes have been damaged by flooding of my basement, but this was such an insane tasting for me as I was new to such massive tastings, so I gave up on the detailed notes quite early). Moldy (as is the notes), elements of paint. Ordinary in flavour. Thats all the thats readable from the notes...
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Butters (3013) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - APR 26, 2011
Pale golden pour with decent offwhite head. VERY cakey sweet vanilla and candi sugar. Extremely sweet, kinda reminded me of like an old english barleywine or really like a wheat wine with lots of yeast. Wasn’t that impressed actually
