Tiarna is a blend of two beers, one aged in oak and fermented with 100% brettanomyces and the other fermented in stainless with a blend of two Belgian yeast strains. Both beers were brewed with a combination of 2 row and wheat malt in addition to specialty grains. It was hopped with Hallertau, Styrian Goldings and Cascade hops.

Bottle (10/2013 date) from Lukaduke -- thanks as always, my friend! Really nice beer. Pours a light straw with very lively carbonation, took a minute to settle down. Aroma gives Belgian hints, light oak, grains. Taste gives you more fruity brett, grass and a nice light tartness that is very Allagash in character, at least from my experience. The oak is present but mellow and the minor hop presence contributes added complexity. Very balanced, drinkable and enjoyable.

From a bottle. Pours opaque peach gold with a fizzy white head. Tastes sour and very tart, like dried and fermented apples, tangy yeast, dry grains. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like musky dry grains, soured fruit, and light yeast.

Bottle. Pours clear, bright gold with fizzy white head. Aroma cereal and bready malts, oak, lemon zest, faint spice, and some barnyard floral and herb notes. Flavor is fresh floral, citrus, and herb notes atop a smooth malt profile along with some oak and sour subtleties; crisp, dry finish. Light/medium body and medium carbonation.

Pours a slightly hazy gold with a foamy white head that dissipates quickly...still looks lively though. Aroma has nice tartness...Some peach and white wine...mild bretty funk and oak. Flavor opens with that nice tartness and peach and then quickly turns to bretty/leathery and funky goodness with nice oak and earthy bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and very lively while the finish is dry and oaky/earthy/white winey. Awesome!

Bottle, caged and corked. Brilliant golden hue, with a thin white foam top. The aroma is brilliant ... rife with wild yeastiness, sour unripe fruit and sugar. The first sip of this takes me straight to Belgium. Pineapple, tangerine, wheat, yeast, all interwoven in brilliant fashion, absolutely delicious. (#5549, 6/12/2014)

375 ml bottle from Binnys (Chicago, IL). Exciting to find these as they drop. Pours a hazy golden hue, a bit dulled and darker in the middle as the edges and bottom show a bit more sunshine glow. Cakey whitish head atop stays as a firm layer, good retention with mellow frothy film sticking around, lacing fairly well. Aromas are pretty fruit driven, showing a bit of tangerine, melon, and white grape. More citrus, pineapple chunks and juice meet touches of funk and fruity hops. A bit dusty, dry, and bready. The gentle straw, cobwebs and mellow white grape come in more as it settles, just a bit oaky in the sweeter, more full Chardonnay realm, a touch buttery, some faint honeysuckle. Initial is shows a lighter body overall, some firmer fruit elements are a bit juicy, grapefruit and citrus meet straw, bready malts and gentle dust. Touches of richer hop elements show some florals, earth, and more brett elements as we dry out quickly. Some graininess, gentle yeast taper out. I though it’d be more full or sweet, but this plays pretty well into the middle. Brett firms up, some nice fruit elements as tannic oak, gentle white wine and firmer cobwebs sink their claws in. A gentle acidity, tart and citric into the backend with nice earthy hops, dry and clean grainy and bready malts. Touches of barnyard, dryness, and mellow yeast taper out. Overall, this worked out pretty well. The oak element is firm but not overwhelming, the hops compliment without stalling out the brett and gentle tartness that converges. Nice stuff.
