DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Sep 7, 2006 Cloudy yellow body, not much head. Spicy nutmeg / molasses cookie aroma - appealing. Smooth, cohesive flavor - more spicy clove/nutmeg over soft, minerally pale malt accented by green peppery hops. A damn fine tripel - I usually don’t enjoy these. ccoalier (13), USA Sep 6, 2006 foamy head --- herbal even body - a good beer for entertainment -- a weaker body though definately not a ASL (american shitty lager) beerbiere (101), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 3, 2006 Golden color, medium head, medium carbonation. Aroma of citrus and honey. Flavor is mostly sweet, a little spicy (pepper) and slightly bitter. Fortunately, the spicyness grants it some complexity. As for other Allagash, I find the body a bit thin and watery. Nevertheless a good tripel. scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Sep 1, 2006 Batch 77 - Whatever that means in terms of age. Hazed sunshine yellow, big foamy white head with excellent lacing. Nose was loaded with rich and complex tones of lemon meringue, fresh bread, orange zest, and honey, with underlying tones of banana and corriander. The flavor integrates all the above into well balanced tones of spice, citrus, vanilla, and honey dipped bread. ABV is well hidden. Full bodied, soft smooth carbonation, spicy, refreshing finish. Being not the biggest fan of this style, this one may have just changed my mind. A great brew all around... STEPHENDR (478), California, USA Aug 30, 2006 Gold hazy color – white medium head – nose of honey , cream , yeast , elderberries , watermelon – taste of malts , yeast , cereals , grains , bitter chocolates , sour apple – champagne body , dry style – aftertaste slightly bitter , yeast , and malts ilikestuff (222), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Aug 14, 2006 Updated: Aug 19, 2006Not my favorite trippel, but any beer with a cork instead of a cap is going to be good. Has a wonderfully pungent aroma. Pretty stong, not as bitter as I would expect. A little too hoppy for my liking in a trippel. Overall, a pretty good brew though. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Aug 9, 2006 This was a nice treat--my first Allagash product. Batch No. 36. The pour was a very nice murky orange color with a small white head. The aroma was incredible--I could’ve kept this one in the glass just to keep sniffing at it. Lots of soft fruit scents and some light honey as well. The taste was similar with the addition of some faint spices and a definite caramel taste. Nice even mouthfeel with a rather refreshing finish. I’m heading back to get some more of this one! OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 4, 2006 From a fresh corked and caged bottle.
Pours a cloudy orange gold with a moderated head. The aroma is honey and orange peel, somewhat spicy, cloves and yeast. The flavor comes on with some sweetness but that is quickly undercut by a very dry tartness, slight wheat flavor, slight butteriness, maybe a tiny hint of soap.
This beer is very well crafted - impressively so - excellent in each of its componetnts. Yet for me, this beer lacks soul. The pieces are all there but it doesn’t come together as the sum of the parts.
