ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 14, 2006 Bottle. Hazy orange with a big creamy white head. Oranges, honey and spices in aroma. Fruity and slightly sweet flavour of oranges, spices, almond and honey with dry psicy undertone. Full, solid body: Dry peppery and grassy finish with undertones of oranges. Very nice trippel. Thanks MrWalker! omhper (12155), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 13, 2006 [Bottled, thanks MrWalker!] Hazy golden. Aroma of grass, honey and banana. Sweet, fruity and lightly yeasty with rounded mouthfeel and full body. Some peppery vinous notes. Grassy finish. Solid, but bit bold. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 9, 2006 Batch 62. Poured a fairly pale yellow color with a small head that disappeared quickly and didn’t lace all that great. A little bit of a fingering along the edges of the glass, but not much else interesting. Pretty subpar for the style. Aroma was nice, spices and some citrus type smells. The flavor was of light citrus, some spices, some bitter orange rinds, and definitely yeast. In fact, this one was more bitter than many a triple, without the complexity of sweetness and other malty stuff going on behind the scenes, or in the early flavors. Alcohol came on strongly as it warmed, a little too warming. A nice beer, but somewhere between 50 percentile and 75 percentile examples from the style. Mouthfeel was thick and of average carbonation. bindpmc (88), San Diego, California, USA Jun 5, 2006 750ml. Batch #79. Fluffy white head that reduces to a persistent quarter-inch of lingering foam. Plenty of lacing. Opaque orange liquid in the glass. Bready yeast in the nose with some orange and citrus thrown in. Mouthfeel is a quality I rarely feel compelled to comment on, but this one is great in the MF department. Taste is a fine combination of yeast and slightly sweet malt, citrus and something else kind of like wood or bark. Alcohol is obviously present, especially on the downtake, but is still mellow for a 9%. Really good stuff. I would imagine a year or two of aging would make this even better and maybe mellow out the alcohol a bit, but in its current condition, really very good. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA May 31, 2006 rating #100. 750ml-Batch #77. Hazy orange, firm long lasting head, heavy carbonation. Aroma: Lemon, Citrus, slighty sour fruit, earthiness and spicy. Taste: sweet malt, tart fruit, sweet lemons, tart and slightly funky finish..... Philip (436), Illinois, USA May 29, 2006 Served as part of a mini-Belgian tasting with some friends of ours. This was the first pour of the night. Banana, honey, clove, lemon, bread pretty much sum up this beer from nose to palate. I’m surprised that the ABV was 9, I was guessing more like 7.5. Its good stuff, probably one of the better Tripels around, but I was overwhelmed. A bit thin of mouthfeel as well. Gmoney (250), ManchVegas, New Hampshire, USA May 18, 2006 750ml corked bottle .. hazy golden yellow color with a huge white head . very yeasty and spicy fruit nose. good citrus flavors .grapefruit ,apple ,lemon and pear.. good hop bite . balanced and a smooth dry finish. the alcohol is apparant but not overdone... good stuff JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA May 18, 2006 Updated: May 30, 2006One thousand beers. I drank this to celebrate the end
of my second year of law school on 5/17/06. The beer
is cloudy orange. Some sediment and a very large and
thick white head that laces my Kapittel glass. This
is surely in the top of its class, and this bottle
from batch 32 has been aged for three years. The cork
was very difficult to remove but the beer underneath
is in great condition. It isn’t as soft and sweet as
Karmeliet, but more upfront with the alcohol and
fruit, as well as bitterness like Westmalle, but
significantly better than that beer. Flavor has some
light fruit, mild sweetness, and alcohol. The alcohol
is also in the flavor. It doesn’t exactly help the
beer but the alcohol presence works this time. Very
smooth on the palate.
