Commercial Description:
This golden hued ale is marked by passion fruit and herbal notes in the aroma, with subtle suggestions of banana and honey surfacing from its deep and complex palate. The Tripel's finish is remarkably long and soothing.

Yeast, citrus aroma, hazy golden, good sized white head. Tastes of kumquat, and bread. Really good mouth feel. A great Tripel.

I lucked out and found this brew at my local liquor store on sale for $3.99 (normally $7.50). Wheaty, somewhat off, cookie aroma. Similar to an Austrian bock in the nose. Banana yellow in color, cloudy, with a small, white head. Good, visible carbonation. Wow! Rich wheaty, strong alcohol presence. Plummy fruit flavor with a semblance of hop profile. Wonderful and warming. Not exactly a session brew at 9% ABV, but this beer is exceptional.

Hazy blond w/ orange-ish hue & big white head. Lovely aroma of banana, spice, cloves & yeast. Light, spritzy body. Fresh banana flavour w/ bread & spices. Dry, tingly, warm finish.

I rated this once about two weeks ago but I lost the sheet of paper I wrote it on. This turned out to be something of a blessing as it gave me an excuse to buy this wonder of a beer again. This is a very pale triple--I’ll call it golden rather than yellow because it tastes good. The first pour is crystal clear but there’s a touch of sediment in later glasses. The head is nice and fluffy, creamy with tiny, tiny bubbles and it lasts long enough to leave thousands of of drippy little spots of lace on the side of my chalice. The nose is somewhat surprising--a bit more hops than I expected, almost-hints of citrus along with actual hints of bread and honey but not much if any of that banana they talk about in the description. The palate is nice and thick, some slight stickiness is made more pronounced by the bitterness in the finish. This is really an excellent beer. I enjoy the extra bit of hops Allagash has added. It gives the beer an American spin without becoming some ham-fisted monster and still staying relatively true to the style.

Whata ya know? I found my old rating of this. It was much higher (4.5). I thought the beer tasted a lot thinner the second go round..... Cloudy golden, gorgeous creamy white head that lasts forever and leaves huge sheets of lace. Nose is mild, slightly bready with a hint of sweet spice and some floral notes. Creamy, thick mouthfeel with a velveteen cusion of carbonation. This a truly complex and delicious, easily on par with the best of the Trappists.

Pours a slightly hazy gold body. Aroma is candy sugar sweet, herby and a little earthy. Flavour is sweet and yeasty with s spicy tinge. Turns to an earthy grassy hop bitterness as it finishes. Well balanced brew.

(bottled, batch #41). Rich gold color, brilliant clarity. Pleasing ripe fruit, bready aroma. Big malt body with lots of fruit flavor and an assertive, herbal bitterness. Lacks a bit of the musty complexity I was hoping for. Dry, lingering finish with peppery alcohol. An excellent beer!
