COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

Bottle from 2009. Busted it out for GUYS NIGHT!!!!!!! Looks pretty nice. Golden yellow color. Nice lacing. S: Smells great. Bananas. cloves. cherries, strawberries T: Tastes pretty gross actually. The must note in this is pretty intense. Few of the fruit notes come through, rather they appear muddled together and no one really stands above. Alcohol is pretty intense. M: Fine on the mouthfeel. Nothing special. Light/medium body. Overall it seems like there is potential here, but all the great flavors just mix together with nothing standing out. Not really the best showing from allagash.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2009 vintage. Pours moderately cloudy golden amber color with a nice 2 finger fluffy dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big white grape, grape skin, pear, apple, honey, floral, apricot, grass, herbal earthiness, white wine, light black pepper, light funk, and light yeast spiciness. Damn nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity of malt notes and yeast esters. Taste of big white grape, pear, apple, apricot, honey, floral, grass, herbal earthiness, light pepper, white wine, light black pepper, light funk, and light yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of light fruits, honey, floral, grass, light pepper, herbal earthiness, light funk, and white wine on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice flavor balance and complexity of malt/yeast esters; with zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly slick and very smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian Strong pale ale. Great flavor balance and complexity of malt and yeast esters; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Hazy gold with a thin white head. Aromas of apricot skin and Sauvignon Blanc must. Bright stone fruit with slight tanins. Finishes nice and dry. Delicious, it's got a hint of grapes but the light characteristics of a Belgian pale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a hazy golden color with a thin white head. Aroma has sweet peach and mango notes with some rind and spice. Flavor has peach...sticky sweet like peach nectar...some rind, and some yeasty/spicy notes...mildwhite wine. Mouthfeel is medium and syrupy with a winey/peachy finish. I feel like this would benefit from oak.

Really solid effort. Pours light orange with a small head that quickly dissipates to a light covering. No lacing. Aromas are light sweetish fruit, light tangerines, some light grape, some pear. Taste is light sweet with very light tangyness. Presence of yeast. Abv is well hidden. Really nice refreshing beer, especially for the strength.

Funky pear and white grape nose. Relatively clear amber, medium snow white head, very nice lacing. White grape are much more pronounced on the palate. Mild alcohol burn, about what you’d expect from a 9% brew. Funk and lemongrass finish. A bit too grapey and vinous for me. A nice offering for introducing wine drinkers to beer.
