To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

A gold pour with white head. A very strong wine (chardonnay) aroma. A sweet fruit taste like wine - heavy with grapes. A dry grain aftertaste, but sweet. Really tasted liked a white wine.

2013 bottle for #drinkitnow. Poured from bottle into tulip. Pours a clear gold with thick, pillowy white head. Tons of lacing left on glass. Triple like aroma with definite overtones of white grape fruitiness. Poured second serving into a white wine glass. Aroma is much more fruity in there. Taste is more like a Belgian strong ale, with definite bitterness (resiny maybe) with some underlying mustiness.

Was told this was a couple of years old. Cloudy brownish yellow. Nose is tripel-esque, with some apple oxidation, and white grape must. Taste follows. Definitely past it’s prime.

Trippel-like strong ale. No discernable grape flavor, just heavy school burn. 750 ML bottle

Instead of the usual review, I am rating this beer based on what it is trying to accomplish and not how much I liked it. I am not into wine and this is definitely leaning hard toward Champagne, but I can appreciate the quality that was put into it. Carry on.

On tap at Ironhorse pours a dark gold with some creamy, white head. Nose of candy, white grape and melon, some stone fruit too. Flavor follows, under ripe canteloupe, white grape, candy, some yeast, light grist. Full bodied, creamy finish.

On tap. Light golden body with effervescent carbonation. Lightly tart with what seems like just the right amount of white grape flavor and aroma to go with the light malt base. Note to self: I want revisit this beer.
