COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is light but distinct of wine and perhaps a touch of oak? Pleasant fruit aromas as well with a touch of spice. Classic sweetness of Belgian yeast. The alcohol is well hidden. Nice mouthfeel and right amount of carbonation. This is a great beer by Allagash, I’m reminded why they are always one of my favorite American brewers.

Draft @ Coalhouse Pizza. A sweet aroma and a copper body. The chardonnay grapes provide a nice dry fruity flavor to this beer that is predominately yeast flavored. Too bready for my tastes, but not bad.

Nice fruity balance to the tripel brew. Tasted at the Allagash Brewery, 07/16/2012.

On tap at Rattle’n’Hum on a night of Belgian beers brewed in northern Maine. Another fairly wheaty one with a pleasant floral aroma. Pretty lemony, with the lemon blending nicely into the grain. (When I wrote this I was not aware it was made with chardonnay grapes.) Not a huge favorite, but a very interesting brew.

Reviewed from notes. The beer pours an orange color with a large white head. The aroma is heavy on the white wine notes, with some nice orange and other tropical fruit notes coming through. The flavor is more of the same. I get some biscuit and wheat notes, as well as some orange and chardonnay grape notes. There is a lot of fruit in the beer, and a decent amount of sweetness and Belgian yeast. The alcohol is well hidden. Medium mouthfeel and high carbonation.

Pale. Fruity, not winey. I really wish there was a little more going on here though.

Draft at Monks. Poured a hazy honey gold with a thick pillowy head. Champagne. Juicy grapes. Apricot. Cumquot. Fresh oak. Just a touch sour. Fizzy on the tongue. Medium light body. Crisp. Delightful.

Light colored, aromatic belgian that reminds me a lot of a saison/farmhouse ale, then with some grape at the end of the palate. It’s straw colored, funky, yeasty, with a lot of grass to it. Grape is there without it really getting sweet. Pretty refreshing considering the abv. I enjoyed it a lot.

The Allagash folksare looking over my shoulder as I write this, si I have to be careful. Fortunayltely tje beer is really good, so I can be truthful. Draft. Cloudy golden color, thick white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of floerws, perfume, dusty hay. Taste is slightly sour lemon bread, straw, light spice. Very nice.

2009 bottle. Grape jelly, honey, very thick sweet flavor. Pale wheat, some funk. Strange but quite good, almost like a cider. Yummy honey.
